    The thing to remember is the difference between "level" and "flat". You want the surface of the stand to be very flat so that the weight of the aquarium is evenly supported. Padding will help if the surface is not completely flat. If the stand is slightly out of level (higher on one side) but still flat, that is not a problem.

    Thanks! Yeah, it seems the padding is all I need to make the tank even.

    Yes, simply add some styrofoam and you should be good to go.
