Using pendants to control the spread of plants is brilliant. We definitely have some plants that just cover the entire tank. It would be nice to be able to isolate them. On the flip side, it would be nice to have darker areas to make fish more comfortable. You've given me a whole new way to look at lighting. Thanks.

Here it is almost three years later. This is just a couple days after a massive pruning. I pulled probably half the plants out because they were just overrunning the tank. You can't really see it in this photo, but there's a regular ivy growing in the left side of the tank. It's probably 50/50 immersed/emmersed and doing quite well.

The fish is gone. If anybody is still interested he can be found at Texas Aquatics.

We could arrange that. Have to be this weekend, I work nights so can't do anything during the week. I'll get the picture up ASAP. - - - Updated - - -

Is it legal to update a 4-yr old thread? Not that I'm one to worry much about what's legal. As you might have guessed, this never happened. The deal for the house fell through thanks to a lying mortgage broker. We lost $2,500 in earnest money and the entire experience left me even more psychotic than before. But my ideas for this tank haven't changed much and I do still think about it daily while sitting here looking at our 75g. We are...

I built this the other week. Works quite well so I thought I'd share it. It's your basic PVC overflow tube with a hose attachment in place of the usual drain T. Here it is in action. The black hose is the drain going out to the flower bed. The gray hose is the fill hose going to the suction cup fill nozzle seen to the right. Quite a lot of tannins in this tank.

Just thought I'd say hello again since I haven't been here in a good while. 39 posts over four years... I'm not terribly active because I'm not that active in the hobby. We have one 75g tank, heavily planted and lightly stocked. I do the occasional pruning or water change, nothing worth sharing here. I did do one interesting project which I plan to share as soon as the pictures upload. And I have plans for a new filter to replace our sump. But...

I say adolescent because he isn't nearly full-grown yet, but he also isn't tiny anymore. We bought him to take care of a live-bearer population explosion. He did a marvelous job. But we knew he'd get bigger than we wanted and start hassling other fish. The time has come for him to move on to a more suitable home. He's about 3.5" long and just starting to develop that iridescent orange/gold color they are known for. We named him Tony... short for...
