Chloramines and chlorine are both neutralize with carbon filters. Most carbon filters will state 99% chloramine removal, so I simply use 2 carbon filters inline to get 100% coverage. https://goo.gl/images/d85TC3 - - - Updated - - - The plumbing looks perfect. Do you have hot and cold water plumbed to the aquarium sight? Outstanding!!! Is the drain line threaded on the end - how about the hot/cold lines; I would assume they are bare...

I think having the area preplumbed is 99.99% of the solution. The other 00.01% can be worked out later or even changed. Once you have the aquarium size figured out, you can go re-drilled for a cleaner setup, or just add a HOB overflow box and still be good. Sump or canister (or both) isn't a problem either. It will be simple to make either work with an auto-drain/auto-refill system. I have designed several in the past and if you like, I would...

UncleSamsPuppet replied to a thread PVC vs CPVC in DIY
CPVC is fine, the main difference is the temperature handling. CPVC is 200F while PVC is 140F Also, you can't interchange the glue... CPVC glue and PVC glue, etc. IIRC the fittings are different sizes also (not interchangeable)

Same here. All of my other aquariums were black (charcoal) Turface and I always steered clear of the "red". I really like the "brown" color it actually appears in the aquarium. It's more red when dry, but once wet it looks brown to me.

Update! Completed the "under stand electrical work", plus received my canister filter! All the pieces and parts, tools, and beer (not pictured). cut some holes and inserted the boxes to sit semi-flush.

Yes, exactly. I personally love it! I think it looks very natural (Turface is a calcium enriched clay designed for Baseball diamond infield dirt - between the bags). Stuff works awesomely for planted aquariums! Thank you very much!

Welcome to DFWfishbox Brandon. I agree with Tanya, thank you for your service. And welcome to Texas! Do you have family here, or from Texas originally? It definitely sounds like you have a wealth of knowledge to share, so I look forward to reading more about your setups and techniques.

Welcome to DFWfishbox! We are glad to have you join us. Once you hit 20 total posts our Buy/Sell section of the forums will be unlocked for this type of advertisement. We like to get to know people first, find out there aquarium setups, learn more about the experience level, etc. before there are transactions involved. So, what is your current setup? I see several blue/3 Spots and maybe a pink kissing gouramis, what else do you keep?

Thank you. Yes, thus the struggles begins. The lights are too close, but I am working on a permanent fix for this. Similar to this, mounted to the studs within the wall above the tank. I'll paint the lights to match. - - - Updated - - - Also, my filter finally shipped, so should be ordering my glass intake/return pipes soon.

Welcome to the site! I agree with most recommendations; 40 breeder or a 55. Both are standard sizes with common equipment (lights, stands, etc.), so it will be easy to find the things you need to get setup and going. Do you know what type of fish you want to keep?

I recently ordered a Glasscages.com aquarium. Their design is a little "odd", but no problems so far. Shipping may be a $ factor with them.
