Sleepingtiger replied to a thread Quarantine services in For sale
This might be feasible if I import in some tropheus. This is a good idea if you can quarantine saltwater fish as well.

i been keeping fish for a long time now, never heard of algae problem because of ammonia in the air. Did you ever check the phosphate level in the aquarium?

I got 30 something dub fry. They are anywhere from 1"-2.5" and some have already lost their white spots. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.

I don't think there is a time frame. I think its all about the amount of fish in your aquarium. A 50g planted tank with tetras isn't a problem. When you got 50 tropheus in a 110g, within 30 minutes my fish was gasping for air. We lost power last week and the first thing I did was get my battery operated air pump. I will buy a UPS for my tropheus tank. Even with a battery operated air pump, it wont do anything to resolve the build up of ammonia....

Not sure if you want a sump for a planted tank. You will be loosing too much CO2. This is the only time you will see me recommend a canister filter.

2 or 3? that is a small number do you have an existing colony you want to add to? Chief is a member on the board and he owns my old group of dubs. I heard they are breeding like crazy. Contact him if you want some dubs.

Not to be argumentative, just a discussion. 1) I agree, you loose too much CO2. That's why I said its a negative if you are trying to do a planted tank 2) Smells only if you don't maintain the sump. 3) All filter media wears out over time. I have filter socks that I have used for 3 years with little wear. They aren't that expensive, a large filter sock is about $12. Used ones for free on DFWMAS 4) Their are many designs out there that are...

if you're talking about the gurgling noise, that can be avoided. there are many designs out there that are virtually silent What happens when the power goes out? The only thing that happens when water goes out is water siphons back into the sump through the return/pump. This can be avoided by installing a check valve on the return or have the nozzle on the return placed partially above the water line so water can't siphon back into the sump....
