Rick, I just added an Emperor 350 on the left side of the tank for much needed water flow and I can honestly say that it is louder than the 400.

I wouldn't call it noisy but it certainly isn't whisper quiet either. I'd say about the same noise level as the water return flow.

Two week tank update: I finally defeated the floating wood that I have been battling and will do Imprezadude's method from now on on any wood while setting up a new tank. All of the plants in the tank have new growth and I added a single aponogeton ulvaceus that already has a huge flower bud all the way to the top tank and there is lots of good algae growth and lots of pond snails (Thanks DNA lol). I have been checking the water...

Thanks for the offer, JerCarr, and I may take you up on it! And if the one piece of wood on the left doesn't stay down by this Saturday then I'll pull it out and cut down one of my black pieces of slate and just screw it down onto it but I was trying to avoid cutting the slate down to you in our next tank build. I truly appreciate all the advise and help, Fishbox!

I'm gonna wait another week or so to see if they saturate on their own but if that doesn't work then I'll boil'em for sure! Also, a question for the masses, my tank came with nice glass tops but I'm not if I should use them or not. How much would the glass tops effect the LED light penetration especially to the bottom of the tank?

Hey Yuno, what is the name of the rock supply store and I love how your tanks are right around your desk. Nice setup and can't wait to see the progression.

I boiled all the rocks in my tank and it never even occurred to me to boil the damn wood! Thanks for the tip Rich!

I'm going to try to keep the swords cut back fairly heavily once they start to grow. I had them in a tank once and yea, they pretty much block anything else from growing if they get out of hand. I did get the piece of driftwood on the right glued down onto a lg piece of slate so haven't had any issues with that one but the rest of my slate pieces are waaaay large and I didn't want to mess up the left side of the tank pulling everything out.

Finally! Several years ago we began selling all of our tanks in preparation for a move and then a virtually complete remodel of my wife's childhood home, and it is nearly complete so after going to DNA a few times we got suckered back into this addiction! I feel like I have totally forgotten everything about planted tanks so I have spent the last 6 months researching (LEDs are SO much better now) and this is what I put together this...
