Im tired of waiting. Lol I decided to go a head and us the 20l I already had to make a plain and simple sump. No baffles, no refugium, just a plain sump. Im going to use a filter sock for the main collection device with a protein skimmer for the smaller things.(it's time to look at new skimmers.) Im using a rio +2500 pump(already had), universal 4" filter sock holder(also already had), oversized CPR oberflow box and a universal over the back...

I finished my filler panels for behind the tank between the stand and canopy. I will get them glued and mail in agter work tomorrow. I also decided on the doors for the stand and found the hinges I want to use on them. I can't wait to get them finished and installed on the stand so it will look like a finished stand. I also bought most of the acrylic for them sump baffles, I need to buy some black for the refugium side of the sump to keep as...

After the paint had dried, the stand finished and the filter modified it was time to fill the tank amd get it cycling. I figured I would try a minimally scaped tank. This pic is about a month after it finished cycling.

The tank, I taped off the trim and the sides and painted the back black. Since I'm starting with no sump i drilled the center brace to put the float switch for my diy ato system. I'm using an ac110 I converted to a hob fuge, it also holds my way too small skimmer. I will get a bigger/better skimmer after the sump is built. - - - Updated - - -

Like I promised before here is the diy build thread for my 55g reef tank. I was tired of having my diy all in one 20l, I liked it, it was working good just not big enough for me. I lile the monster tanks. Lol that being said this 55g isn't big enough either but it will due until I get a bigger tank. I started by getting a brand new 55g from petco when they went on sale. $65, not a bad price for a new 55g tank. I started by building 2 rectangles...

Yes I checked it too. I figured with all the rabbits (20 at the time) and the kids not properly cleaning there cages that the ammonia wabeing absorbed into the water and running through the cycle like a very heavily stocked tank. Even after the 50% water change the nitrates were still over 100ppm. Dont remember the phosphate or ammonia levels, it was too long ago. Lol

Its been a while but I got the tank up amd running for a while with no abnormal issued. Then I had a hair algae out brake. I was cutting the feeding back, shortened the rime the lights where on and doing big 50% water changes a week with no luck. I finally came to the conclusion that I had extra ammonia in the air in my hoise from my wife's and kids show rabbits. I shut it down and down sized to a 20 long in my bedroom. As you can see I got...

No center brace, being only 4' wide I put enough accross the top to spread the load on this one. It will have doors built soon. I'm Looking at different styles and the bits needed for rised panel doors and deciding on flush mount doors or over sized cabinet doors. I'm about to start on a canopy for it. Just haven't decided on doors or the entire front half opening to gain access inside. I have a few little extras I will be including on this...

I ised salinity for a wbile then switched to fritz. The fritz I could mix and add to the tank with in an hour, 2 at most. I used the reef chrystals as an emergency if I ran out of fritz. With the reef chrystals I had to mix an extra scoop of salt mix to get it to match my salinity, i also had reel high calcium and alkalinity readings. - - - Updated - - - I know this is an old thread, but I hadn't been on in a long time.

This is one I built around a metal stand. I wrapped the legs with some 2x3, notching out the center so the metal legs had a place to hide. I then built the 2 side panels to fill in between the front and back legs. I made the 2 doors big enough to work or place another tank/sump in it with out any issues. It eventually was painted black before it was sold. This is one that I built for a customer last year.

lgsasquatch started a thread Some of my diy stands in DIY
This first one is one I did for my wife before she decided to get out of the hobby. It is an old das tank ,65g, it is made from mdf, not my choice of building material for aquarium. It had a white wash wood looking vinal when I got it. I stripped what was left of it off and replace some of the damaged/missing wood, resealed it and installed the 3d background before I gave it this rock looking texture finish. This next one is a 100g cube I...

I have been building stands and canopies for a while now, mainly for my own tanks. I dont have the extra money to buy them from the stores, most of them i do not like anyway. Everything I build is from solid wood or cabinet grade plywood, I can even wrap metal stands in wood. This one I'm building for my current 55g.
