Thanks! I don't cover the entire bottom of the tub with soil and gravel cap as you would in a Walstad aquarium. I like to be able to move the plants around as they grow, and tear the whole tub down easily if there is a problem. So I use trays and shallow pots with soil and cap, aiming for the same depth of substrate as you would have in a large aquarium. Size of the tray or pot varies with what species of plant that will be grown in them. ...

Most of my tubs are not "powered" at all. The large ponds have recirculating pumps plugged into GFI receptacles, but the small ones don't. There are solar powered pumps and fountains. The big problem with these is that they don't work at night (at least the ones I've seen), and that is when the oxygen levels drop because photosynthesis and oxygen production from plants stops. Battery powered aerators are a possible solution, if the batteries...

This is an unusual size and shape: 10x20x20 tall. The foot print is the same as a standard 10, but it is twice as tall. It has slow leak in one of the corner seams about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. It would make a good terrarium for tall plants or climbing animals. Send me a PM if interested and I will send you my address for pick up. It goes in the trash if no one wants it.

The water temperature does not change quickly like air temperature, so what you get is something in the middle between day and night time air temperature. But as the summer progresses, the water temperature slowly goes up until it can reach levels that stress the fish.

The biggest problem I've had with summer tubs is temperature. In full sun they really get too hot. Morning sun and afternoon shade is much better, or dappled shade under trees. This applies to tubs with aquarium species of fish and plants. If you want to grow water lilies, then full sun is best.

Gypsi, you just missed a great meeting last Saturday. The next one will be in March, this time on the east side of the metroplex.

Try this page on Flow Grow: https://www.flowgrow.de/db/aquaticplants?filter%5Bgenus%5D=18 Flow Grow is really good, and also helps to sort out all the obsolete and erroneous names. Classification of anubias is a mess! But you sound like you have a good collection already. Have you tried any bucephalandra? They like conditions similar to anubias, but have very different color range. DFW-APC almost always has some a door prizes at...

Michael replied to a thread Fish in a Fountain? in Tank Setups
This can work, assuming water chemistry and temperature are appropriate. Being in the shade really helps in the summer. How large is the fountain basin? The greater the volume of water, the more stable it will be.
