at the auction I wanted to at least walk away with some fish so I bought some Red Pointer fish if thats the correct name, but my question is how well do they live with some African cichlids I know there from a different lake.

Also I think the female is about to have babies anyone know any signs if they are?

I don't recognize the name. Honduran Red Points maybe? If so they are Central American Cichlids

they are normally more of a pretty blue than in the pic I posted. I don't know how they would do with Africans. I would not recommend it simply because they have very different water requirements.

only reason why I have a male and female in my big tank is because I bought 6 males and ive heard if theres 1 female and 6 males they will kill each other for her is that true?

i wouildn't worry much about the ph...
I don't mess with it in m african tanks because most of them are farm raised anyway and the tanks at the fish stores are not in their natural ph range.

Since I've stopped messing with ph, my fish seem much happier and actually started breeding.

Now with that said, I wouldn't keep HRP's with africans because of different dietary needs and I think HRP's would get bullied pretty badly.

that's a good point. I actually looked at HRP's at one point, but didn't get them. Anyways, researched them and remember reading they have a fairly peaceful nature (on a cichlid scale anyways). They probably would get beat up.

Here are some pics of the male and female. The female is twice the size of the male and I think she's pregnant because she's claiming her rock in the corner of the tank and she doesn't eat much

yep, those are HRPs. Female gets an orange belly when ready to spawn like a convict. are her and the male staking out a place in the tank?

Yeah it looks like it but when they try to go on the other side of the tank the africans mess with them lol

yea, I figure that is going to happen. Is there a tank you can move them to by themselves?

nope thats what sucks I have a 40g and 10g...and the 10g has 5 other males in it so I dont wanna put them in there, but it looks like the Red Pointer fish are doing well in my 40g :) Lets just see how it goes
