View Full Version : My new 150g

I went with LEDs for it - all in all, the LEDs were just a bit more expensive than a metal halide + chiller. I figured that I'll save that money in electricity!

I'm excited to have a tank again! It's been about 15 years since my last fish/live rock tank.

Looking really good! I hooked up my Blue LED's recently and they transform the tank into another world. When do you plan to start stocking it?

Thanks! I'll probably wait 2-3 weeks to put a pair of clowns in. The live rock was already cured and it has live sand.

That looks amazing! You're going to be in love with that lighting very soon. I think you made a very wise choice. That tank is a beautiful addition to your room. I sincerely like it. It's very good taste. Enjoy populating it! Will be fun to watch it mature.

Looks great. Is that a 125? That will be great when it starts filling in.

It's a 150. They were supposed to put in 150lbs of live rock but that looks more like 90-100 to me. I have a call in to them asking for verification...

Great stand and canopy! Where did you find it?

What fixtures did you get? Where'd you get em?

Thats a awesome tank!Looks great!Keep us updated when you start stocking it!

What kind of filtration are you running? It already looks amazing without the fish:D

11-09-2011, 06:51 PM
It's a DNA "offering". Filtration is a protein skimmer w/ a refugium. The lights are the Unique Prisms. The are so killer!!!

Awesome, wish I had a tank that size! What plans do you have for it?

They look like Unique LED's prism fixtures.

It's going to be a reef tank. I'm going on Saturday to buy a few starter fish.

They added another 50lbs of rock and re-stacked. I wasn't happy with the density of the rock they originally picked out and added. It looks much better now:

I see you got that magnifying glass on the tank. When I tell people how much I paid for it, they are like , but then I say, just look thru it! :hehe: Your tank is looking really good and its empty, thats saying something!

11-10-2011, 03:51 PM
hehe - I get it. It *is* an expensive piece but, with a 3yo and a 7yo in the house, I felt it would earn its keep over the years. They love the thing! I want the 6" when he releases it.

id love to have a magnifying glass on mine, theres alot of weird little creatures living in the rocks :p: rockwork looks great!

11-15-2011, 07:21 PM
The magnifying glass/portal is just awesome. We love it. If it was just me and the wife (rather than us plus our 3yo and 7yo), I'd still think it was a great addition. Highly recommended!

I've been adding 'creatures' to the tank - we're now at:

Percula clownfish (2)
Emerald crabs (5)
Random hermit crabs (14)
Trocus snails (12)
Molly Miller blenny (1)

This is some zoo growing on some of my live rock:

Even my snails have snails:

those aren't zoos, looks like anthelias or some type of clove polyps.

Whats the rush adding all those livestocks?

11-16-2011, 05:00 PM
Whats the rush adding all those livestocks?Well, I don't think I'm rushing too much. My tank has live sand, 200lbs of already cured live rock, and was populated with water that was from the aquarium store's stock. The rock came with a hermit and, after a week, he was still hanging around so we bought more hermits. We then bought the rest a few days later. The crawlie things are really handy for a cleanup crew and the fish are just for fun :) I guess everyone has their own version of patience :p:
