It looks like you're off to a good start. I bet that light will warm the room in the winter.

What's with the sticker on the lower right? Is it on the glass? If so, is it hiding a scratch, blemish, or something really ugly?

not hiding anything, just stuck it on there. i already burned myself on the light. lol

Looking good if you can raise the fixture a bit. You will have better coverage and not worry about burning corals that are closer to the surface. Was that dead rock? Should had done a fishless cycle if so. Just throw a raw shrimp in it

250w on a 40b is overkill and not really needed, you will actually end up burning and bleaching corals with it. Try getting a 150w instead or do T5s, you will get better results. Ditch that seaclone, they are crap.

Wait is that 2x 250w mh on it?

Omg bathwater for the chromis. That will kill everything. It is times 2
Also gonna need some surface agitation as well

I have 2 koralia nanos for sale if your interested for 40 for both. They are the higher nano version with more gph

Seriously if those are 2x 250w and they are sitting that low you will def kill stuff and not to mention raise the temp and evaporation rate like crazy!

Yes you will also need a powerhead or two in there.

I'd say you will probably want 2 K2s (maybe even K3s?) for a 40B. Also, I think you will be ok with that light, but you will need to raise it quite a bit.

Wow, just curious on the light. Did you get it for free and are just using it and not wasting it? Or did you REALLY want that much light for a specific purpose? Most people are/or already have switching to the LEDs, which run so cool you can pretty much touch them without being burned. MH is also pretty hard on your electric bill. Years ago I had four reef tanks running 250w MH pendants and it really did make a difference in my bill. You'll probably want to keep track of that.

Other than that, good luck and have fun. I enjoy watching evolutions of new reef tanks. It's just amazing how much they change in a year.

Nice fish tank looks great .

That light actually has 2 150w mh...not 250w. But it does need to be raised a bit off the top of the tank.

Did too put the ac110 fuge mod on it? That should give you good surface agitation. But a k2 or k3 on the opposite side would help.

Skimmer should be fine. They aren't crap. Most people just don't like the cheaper off brand stuff. I've used one for almost 2 years and it worked great.

Are you happy with using the 40b over using a standard 45? Looks like you have a good sand bed going. Look forward to watching it mature.

You will definitely need to raise the light.
I guess the skimmer will work if all you are going to keep is softies and a few LPS. Honestly never owned one, but have not found a good review or anyone other than Blayne who actually liked theirs.

I like the rock work. Nice and open. How much rock is there in there?
Any details on the fuge?

I think its 250w together, I'm planning some way of raising it. I bought this light because I got a good deal. The fuge is an Ac500 with live rock and some macro algae that blayne gave me. It's got pretty good surface aggitation, Im already looking for better powerheads. There's about 30 lbs of rock

Congrats. Looks like you got a setup that will grow anything.

Re: the SeaClone. I'd at least start thinking of changing this out. If you break the volute on the maxi12 you'll be buying a whole new skimmer anyway.

Justin that's my old fixture. Its got 2 150w mh, 2 65w pc actinic, and 4 moonlights. The mh bulbs in it now are 14k I think.

Ya idk dave. Maybe I had a good one but mine worked great.

mines working good right now, i guess its not leaking.

i have some plans drawn up and going to go to home depot tomarrow when i get my check to get the wood.

many people will just use 3/4 conduit and put a 90 bend in it. You can mount it to the back of the stand and then hang the lights from those.

take that sticker off!!!!
