Please help me ID. His coloration is dark red (almost a blood red) and he is about 2.5 inches in length.

blend in with the surrounding? his diet? the lighting?

theyre usually brownish to maroonish looking, the white stripe gave it away.

Perhaps diet. He's still just as red as when I bought him at the store. Was $4 to much for him?

Nope, great price. Mine change colors occasionally. They go from brown to bright red to pale (the pale if they are stressed).

It's pretty cool. What tank members can it go with?

First does it have fans in front to eat like a filter shrimp? could not see from VId,
if so that would be a filter feeding shrimp, the same as the one I have, I got mine at FG, mine happens to be a Blue shrimp, nick named Vampire shrimp

here are two photos one is just to show fans other is mine

As far as tank mates, I have mine with Rams and Guppies, then a cleaning crew, One day my shrimp was traveling the tank to get to the filter inlet, cross the GBR area, they Ram him, then he kick the sh%t out the female GBR, So they can take care of them self with smaller tank mates

oh ya 4.00 that is cheap , wood or bamboo at FG is 14.00

they do fine with my Rams :), but my shrimp is almost 3 inches so he is as big as the rams and rams are peacefull fish, anything bigger yes they are just fish food

He means anything bigger fish-wise will eat the shrimp, Tony.
