I need some advice on buying a heater...I had a marineland 300 watt heater On my 55 gallon and it failed on me yesterday and I've had it for about 2 months so I need some comments on a good heater that will last

Thanks Ben

Eheim Jager (old was were Ebo Jagger) seem to last but are a bit pricey. Can get a 300W for about $25-$30 +shipping.

I only use in line heaters after I had a traditional heater fry a 125 gallon tank full of mature peacocks, this is what I use:

stealths and visi-therms are pretty good. you can choose the exact temp you want with a couple clicks

Very Good Heater, i run this type on my 90gal RR tank (Wet/Dry). I set it up when i got it and since then i have not touched the setting. Although it does require you to get under the tank and make sure its still working (When i do water changes). I found i rather just use a Digital Thermometer and it tell me temp so if it goes up too much or off i can react.

I dont use heaters in any of my tanks. Not worth the risk

Heaters are a sore subject with me even tho in 45 plus yrs I've only had one fail where it killed fish. The others just failed to maintain temp. Which was the problem with the one in my 110 Discus tank. I replaced that one with a titanium JBJ 500 watt with temp probe and external control box, 150 bucks:(. Hopefully it will last, only had it a week now. ALL heaters are subject to fail some do it more than others. There isnt a heater made that I haven't heard a complaint about. With that in mind thats one of the reasons I made a fishroom for the majority of my tanks. The room is heated to around 85 degrees and I dont have to worry about individual tanks. The show tanks out of the room I just cross my fingers on.
