so the 30 gallon tank that i set up for my mother... with about 200 dollars worth of fish in it. so... i forgot to mention to her that the heater was malfunctioning and not to plug it in. so i got 10 gallons of fresh water to clean it out and stepped inside the house and thought to myself "what the **** is this horrid smell!!!" then i krept closer to the tank and looked inside, the heartiest fish that she had was.. umm.. cooked.... so i felt the side of the tank and it was over one hundred degrees, apparently fish don't like saunas! so i spent two hours dumping out the dead fish, rancid water, and gravel so i could get the tank out of the house so it wouldn't smell so bad. turns out my mom had seen that the heater was unplugged and thought that it needed to be plugged in along with all of the christmas lights.

so.... what should i do with the 30 gallon tank now? what would you do, given the chance to start over?!?!?!? ugh

What kind of question is that to members of a fish forum? There's only one answer....

MORE FISH!

Sorry to hear about the loss. When life gives you a lemon make........bla bla bla

I would do some shellies!! How about some julies? A group of afras would be cool or Saulosi.

yep.. new heater for sure... and something that has lots of movement and requires little interaction from humans...

let me second the notion of getting a NEW HEATER again...

sorry to hear about the whole situation though...that is not something nice to walk into... poor fisheees... Por MOM!!!

Poor Sean and Mom! Eww! I can kind of relate due to my recent accidental massacre of my fish in my 55. Just start over again, but with community fish that would be easier for her to care for.

Yeah, that really bites!

I say do some gold fish (no heater required).

Or a freshwater alligator!!! http://www.itsnature.org/forums/images/smilies/alligator2.gif

sorry to hear about the loss! got to move on though...hmm. I think shellies are a good idea. Very interesting fish, but if you want to be able to go more diverse with fish, community. maybe some killies

Dwarf Caymen in a 30g that will work well...

Add a couple Oscars and a Jack Dempsey with it and you will be set....

Anyone who says they want a "small" creature that has odds on ripping a finger off in a small (Yes I saw and know about your 146 and knew you were talking about it) area has a real hard time calling someone else a jackass.

Welcome back...

ok biggin... nice to see you! i'm putting together a 5.5 gallon tank right now for mom for christmas. i glued a divider in the center so she can have a nice homemade betta duplex. i told her she can pick any two bettas that she wants from aquabid and i'd get them. the thirty can wait a while... while i brainstorm ideas.
