Is there a brand or place i can get some that i do not need to clean before putting in an aquarium.. ?

PFS is a pain to clean and so are 3M colorquarts S ... i just want to be able to dump them in the tank, pour water in, and let it be done with and dont have to worry about clouding that much.

Or better yet... what's the fastest way to clean them? Usually takes me about 30-40 rinses to get them clean and that takes forever.

It's going to be for my new shellie tank :D

My friend set his tank up with pool filter sand from Leslie's Pools Supply. And from what i recall he just dumped it in and started his cycle. He has a 135gal. and i never saw it get cloudy.

The sand was white or a little off white color.

pool filter sand should be clean out of the bag, they're man made silica. They should be cleaned after 1-2 rinse at the worst.

I'm about to change my gravel to black sand i'm purchasing from a local tile company (medium grade is what the sales guy said). Would I have to clean this as well?

I have used pool sand and sand blasting sand. BOTH had to be rinsed, both made the water cloudy for about a week. The pool sand I like better. I have found that using a garden hose in a 5 gal bucket works. Jab the hose on full blast up and down in the sand all the way to the bottom of the bucket. really stirs it up and seems to speed up the rinsing better the just sticking the hose in there and letting it run.

How do you know when this stuff is clean? Will this be when water isn't cloudy anymore?

In Denton at Gohlke supply. It's cheap ~$13.00 for a hundred pounds

I have about a half a bag left over of the blasting sand if you want it. I had it in my 240 and did not like the way the tank looked with white sand. It is yours if you want it.

not too bad...but its very fine so you have to make sure you are patient while you are cleaning it...so it can settle back down before dumping the crap.

Here's my white color quartz. I used that crystal clear to clear it up. Worked pretty well. Like 2 days and it was clear.
