I tried that product once and didn't notice any improvement personally - wouldn't have enough experience to say it didn't work. I think you're better off with some used gravel or filter media to get the beneficial bacteria started in a new tank.

I usually remove some old filter media off one of my other tanks and put it in the new filter.

I've heard some people using it with success. However, those people always say it is hit or miss depending on a lot of things. I've heard some people have great success, but others with no luck. If you don't have any other running tanks and want to give it a try, why not? If you have access to established tanks, I would go that route.

I have used a similar product called 'stress zyme' in my tanks. Some tanks I just put new filters into and used it in conjunction with other seasoned filter media and things worked out just fine. I would say biological boosters are helpful but not a be all, end all type of product.

x3. Your tank could be cycled in a matter of days with this method. The only good "bacteria from a bottle" products are the one's kept in refrigerators at the fish stores.

I have had good luck with it. I do think filter media from another tank is the best way to go, but when that is not an option I use this to get the cycle done a little quicker.

I know that there was a product called Fritz-zime that used to work very good on new tanks but Fritz has gotten out of the pet business. I have used it a lot but.... As far as the newer products that use bacteria from ceptic tanks, I can't help you.

I've had great luck quick-cycling with this though:

It's shipped refrigerated and works very well.

Seems like a waste of money when anyone on this site would give you used filter media for free.

If you put those quick cycle stuff in the tank, then you need to DUMP your fish in it.

If you put those stuff in the tank and NOT have fish, you'll starve the bacteria and they'll all will die creating ammonia.

You may be better off adding pure ammonia to start the cycling process..

Remember, quick cycle can also be un-stable for sometime...do it the right way..add pure ammonia and let nature takes it course. It may take 2--3 weeks to cycle, but it'll be very stable.

If you have filter media, then dump media, add fish and you're done.

Do a search under my name for "how to setup an emergency tank in one day"
