For the most part I use NLS and I'm thinking about getting in on the Ken's group buy. What is your experience with Kens sinking pellets and veggie flakes? .

I like NLS, but Kens sticks work better for me. Not as messy and you can get strait spirulina sticks.

I hate flakes...

I got about 2lbs a year ago IIRC. I just ordered last week and bought around 8-9lbs. I should be set for a little while...;)

Been buying both from Ken for years, good stuff. I typically order 25 lbs of various flake and pellets about twice a year. I have a freezer in the garage in keep it in until I need it.

I feed NLS as my main, consistent staple. I try different flakes to see what the fish like and don't like, and what makes them act and look healthier. I just placed my 1st order with Ken's, so we'll see how it goes. I'll still be feeding the NLS as well though.

I use both and they are both good. I think you can even buy NLS from Kens.

I'm a dedicated Ken's customer, although I have gotten some NLS from there, too.

I was part of the Ken's group buy on here the second to last time they had one. It was my first purchase from Ken's, but there will be many more to come. Now i will never buy food from anywhere else again. I bought the growth pellets (as most of my fish are young), the color pellets, and angelfish flake. All of my fish seem to love the food. If i would have known how well they would respond i would have bought more. I just wanted to place a conservative order in case the fish didn't like it. I have noticed great improvements in the size and looks of all of my fish that eat it.

I don't recommend getting Ken's Premium Spirulina Flakes, it is more like dust when you add it to the tank. I know some of my fry must love it, but most is wasted. I prefer NLS and Dainichi, but my cichlids love the Ken's sinking pellets and Wardley Cichlid Flakes better! Their colors really seem to pop with Danichi!

I addressed that issue with Ken a while back and he said it is because he does not use any binders to make the flake larger. Basically, the spirullina is mixed with water, sprayed on a wall where it's allowed to dry naturally, and collected. It's 100% spirullina vs other brands that are not 100% because of the binders. The result is a very small flake.

A suggestion would be to mix it with water and put it in small ice cube trays and freeze it. You'd make your own spirullina cubes that the fish could nibble on as it melts.

I heard he was having trouble getting the spirulina now because of the health nuts anyways..

That is a great idea! I still have a ton of that stuff! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I used to buy Omega One fish food, because the top 5 ingredients are whole fish and shrimps, and not fish meals. Although I don't use it anymore because of the cost, Ken's as a replacement works just as well.

That was some intense reading and writing from RD. I am glad I just bought myself 10lbs of NLS. We'll see if my fry grow faster, become brighter, and live longer :)
