Just picked me up a new fish! Went to The Fish Gallery this morning and found myself once AGAIN looking at the Discus. Salesman approached me and told me to stop or I would end up taking one home. Told him about my dear departed Harold (Blue Turquoise) and he asked if I had ever seen this Ram. Took one look and then took one home. As soon as she comes out of hiding I will post a picture. Already have a male and female Blue Ram in the tank with a black sand substrate. Till then look at this one

I saw them there today also.I am not a ram person but my first thought was this is much prettier than the electric dempsey.

I saw these last night on another forum, and thought they were pretty sweet. I was going to try to look at some in Houston while I am there. Great new fish you got!!

Tim, while in Houston go to see the Fish Gallery and the Houston Aquarium Warehouse. Both are fairly close to the medical district, especially the Fish Gallery. Good luck and good wishes for you!

My daughter lives near Houston. When I went in the spring, I visited several. These two are the best. After that, they became more of the same ol' same ol'. The only exception was the Fish Ranch in Rosenberg. Nothing to look at, but he had some GREAT chiclids. Dan at the HAW said he was moving more towards small fish and fewer chiclids. He has the best discus around and great prices. He has a great eye for fish and can pick out some great ones for you. Have fun!

They have been selectively bred to bring out those colors. Similar to the Glowfish Danios. So far as I know this is not a dyed fish.

Nice fishes. Can you mix them with red parrot fish?
Do they play nice with Oscars? I like them and the wife and kiddo liked it. Pretty nice fish. What do they start at?

I have three of these fish total. Two are in the Discus tank and one is in a tank with a Blood Parrot and two other additional German Blue Rams. So far so good. I would not recommend keeping these with Oscars though. Anything that CAN fit into their mouth will eventually 'disappear'. These fish are community oriented, just need a little corner to call their own. Purchased them at The Fish Gallery and the going rate was forty dollars. A little much but they are not ordinary fish.

It is not a Petcofish.... I like the price. If everyone has them then they are little more then a German Ram and what fun is that?
Very nice fish.

pretty fish...but I'm tired of the all the selective breed fish for what we want...
If I can't go to a lake and get the fish, then I'm not interested...IMHO there is something the matter with that...
<off soap box>
it is a pretty fish though...

How many peacocks and other fish you have kept fit that bill?
Selective breeding is what keeps people in the hobby.

I have enough stock to start a breeding program. Problem is, my wife's favorite fish is in the tank (blood parrot) and I cannot get rid of him, and I can't just toss him in with my Discus. Although.... I do run some RO water in that tank and I have this little terracotta pot that I'm not doing anything with. What would I do when the fry were born to protect them?

FYI-They breeder is not selling females. All EBR are male. You'll have to breed them back to Germans.

Ok, now I 'm curious. How big are they and what fish can you house them with?

Just look up Papiliochromis ramirezi for the info. Their size/temperament will not differ from the standard ram. They are peaceful community fish that get 2" or so.
