What kind of fish is this? I know it in chinese but not in English. Chinese people believe this kind of fish bring them good luck. I might want to have one of these but don't know how to care for them. Any advice?

Looks liek an arrowana. They get HUGE, and you can't keep it with guppies and platies, and you really shouldn't keep them in a 55 gallon.

definitely needs a tank larger than a 55, but i disagree about keeping them with guppies and platies. the guppies and platies would make a nice meal for the Arowana. :D:D:D:D:D

Yea, I didn't think I am able to have them. The people that I know have them in L.A, they feed them with guppies. I was just wondering what kind of fish they are. Beside I think that you can't put any fish with them. When I see anyone who have them, they are always by themselves.

The whole front end of an arrowana opens up and will swallow any fish that fits in it's mouth!

:exactly: yes, you right. They call them sliver dragon, red dragon and gold gragon (the most expensive). I have yet to see the golden one. I have seem the sliver and the red one before. My brother used to had one, it jump out of his tank... I guess he the was too cold/hot...

They believe that these fish will bring them good fortune. That is why they have them. Since I am chinese, I was thinking of this too. But I am not going to becasue I don't have a big tank for them... :brandy:

Cool pics on the breeding! I think I saw some of these fish at the USA Aquariums fish store in Plano? It is the one by Garden Ridge. They are pretty big fish. :D

Very cool video but those were actually Jardini.
I am not for sure but I was told the asians also beleive the parrot fish bring them good fortune. They could go in a 55 gallon with no problem but they might eat the guppies. Most are slow and have small mouths but they would probably try to catch the guppies.Much cheaper also starting around $8

Those aren't Jardinis...they're RTG (red tail golden). Your aro must be slow lol...and no they can not live in a a 55 gallon. They have a bony tongue that extends beyong where their mouth ended.
Just because they can PHYSICALLY fit in a 500, DOES NOT mean they can live in it. You can physicially fit a 30"x30"x30" box, but it doesn't necessarily that you can thrive in it.
Where do you get your info from ? I noticed you have an aro in your sig ? I'd have to disagree with your post above.

Your probably smarter than me so I will go with your RTG but they looked like Jardini to me not arrows. If you read my whole post I was saying that parrot fish could fit in a 55 not arrows and I belive the asians like the parrots also.

Oooh okay...I thought you meant the aros can live in a 55 Gallon.
RTG or X-back are asian species that are illegal here :(

I thought you were saying the arro could go in a 55g as well and I was sure you would not say that. The post makes a lot more sense thinking it was about parrots.

I love blood parrot fish. I love to see them kissing each other (I think that is what they are doing). Since they can be aggressive, so my husband won't let me have them. He doesn't like any aggressive fish. :(

How sweet would an Arowana look in a pond? Too bad they jump...and they won't tolerate the winter.

Jenny, if you haven't already, you should check out Aquatic Wonderland in Arlington, it is run by a very nice asian couple and they are really into asian fish that bring good luck. They also have a web site.
