View Full Version : My dumb move of the day

It was time to move Haiven's cherry shrimp from their temp quarters to my son's tank. He's down to one remaining fish, and since he finally admitted that he really doesn't have time to deal with fishkeeping, the idea is to turn the tank into plants and shrimp, with "Roger" grandfathered in for however long he lasts (which ought to be awhile, with lots of fresh baby shrimp hatching - there's about 10 good-sized adults in there).

It was in dire need of algae cleanup, so I put Roger in a container, drained it down to about 2", and scoured the glass before returning the saved water, adding the shrimp, and putting the fish back. And I dutifully cleaned the sponge and bag of media stones from the AquaClear in tank water and stowed them in the saved water while I worked, because it took about 2 hours to do everything.

Then when I put it all back together ... no basket. The little basket that holds the filter media is missing. It wasn't in the water change bucket, not in the container where I saved the water and filter media, not around the tank, not around the sink - not even by the phone, since I figured maybe I walked off and answered the phone with it in my hand. I have no clue where it is. Obviously, in the course of going back and forth around the house, I set it down, but I'll be hanged if I know where.

It's not a problem - I just put the sponge and the media bag back into the filter without it. But someone is going to have a "what on earth is this and what's it doing here?" moment in the next few days!

I hate it when that happens. You'll more than likely find it in the fridge or the dryer for someone unknown reason. :hehe:

I've done stuff like that before. Heck I did it several times today, I'm on call for the week & have to carry 2 phones. I've lost one or both of them at least three times this week.

Brain Farts really do stink.....:hehe:

In-Laws my butt... I would fork over my last dollar for a new one before I did that! A small price for a little peace of mind knowing you don't have them digging around in your stuff. roflmao

Just to make you feel better about being forgetful, at least you aren't stupid. I was trimming my plants this morning and ended up breaking my glass thermometer in the tank.

let's see....in the past week i came within millimeters of overfilling my 75 with the python.
I also meticulously cleaned the puffer tank, and then removed the filter for cleaning....with it still on  . <poof> a bunch of crap in the water. start over...! I routinely find fish stuff all over the house that I previously "lost"
:D

So there I was puttering in the yard today, and what do you think I found under the bushes outside my living room window?

When I'm doing water changes, I normally rinse the filter media in the water bucket, and I guess when I dumped the water on the bushes (be a pity to waste all that good plant food by pouring it down the drain), I didn't notice that the basket was still in there!
