Feeding ?

Hi, I work most of the day and obviously can't feed my fish until I come home. My question is it healthy to feed my fish only once a day during the weekdays and a little more on the weekends?

sorry forgot to add that I have Fronts and brichardi and a few red zebras.

It is best to feed them at least twice a day. Can you feed them before leaving for work and again when you get home? Be sure and only feed them what they can eat in 2-3 minutes.

I guess i can feed them before I leave but it is still very dark in the morning and so I would have to turn on the lights and wake them all up. hahaha.

Thats what i do. I wake up go turn the lights one to get them up and by the time i finish getting ready for work they are all waiting. then i feed them before i got to bed.

i wouldnt worry about it to much. it is true that the more you split up the feeding the better but unless you are trying to grow these fish out really fast one feeding is okay.

i really dont reagard feeding as importnat. i skip a few days, feed 3-4 times per day, twice, once, doesnt really matter to me. they live

Most fish can go a couple weeks with out feeding.

I do not feed more then once a day.

I used to for years only feed once a day, but when I joined here, several people recommended feeding twice a day, and it does seem that my fish re-produce better with twice a day feedings. Shoot, who knows?

Hello gang,

Yes I am a newbie I was feeding two times a day but was told I maybe over feeding?????... so backed off to one time a day until thay seem to be starving ... so I feed in the morning when I turn on the lights and again at night after my dinner is that overfeeding??????... I have 26 Cichlids in a 55 gallon tank..

How big are your chilids?
What filtration are you running on the 55?
That seems a bit high as far as the number of fish you have in a 55, but if you have enough filtration it should be okay.
I know it is off subject but asking anyways.

As far as how many times i fed my fish, once a day and that is every other day. Sometimes everyday, but once a day should be alright.
I was feeding mine everyday twice but i do not do that any longer, to much food was wasted.

I figure the less fed, the less waste. The on the other hand, the more fed, the less aggression. It works well, as long as they don't go days without eating. Fish don't have a scheduled feeding in the wild.
