So I got in a wet used Rena via Fed X, gross, anyway, do I just bleach and declorinate to clear it of possible disease? square sponges and hoses etc. Like if the guy pulled it from an ich infected tank and shipped it to me, will bleach kill all?

and how long do I need to let it sit in bleach before dechlorinating? Then let it dry, right.

Or do I dip it, let it dry with bleach on it, 24 hrs? then dechlorinate?

Just don't trust this seller. :notcool:

Thanks
Patti

Patti, that IS gross. I've bought used filters from folks on here and they were almost indistinguishable from new but I STILL sterilize (a several-hour soak in bleach and hot water and I take every single piece apart and soak it too, including the hoses). I rinse well and then I use extra decolorinator in the rinse soak and when I fill the filter for the first time. Be sure and remove all o-rings before you soak since they don't soak in bleach water very well. I wipe mine down with dilute bleach water, then rinse well, then lube with liquid silicone, or you can use vaseline. Sorry you got involved with a bad Ebay seller. Years ago I purchased a protein skimmer from a guy who made it a really miserable experience so I sure know what you're going through. Sure hope you leave negative feedback for him so other folks will know how he ships items. Best wishes with getting your filter straightened out.
