I have a new Betta that I have only had for a couple of weeks. He is eating fine and swimming all over his tank. I have him at work and their is a small heater in his tank to keep the water level between 74-78 which was recommended for Bettas. I also have some pebbles, a fake plant, and a hiding barrel for him. But he has developed some white spots on his face and around his gills. The pet store said that this was ICK. I treated his ICK for 1 week with Life Guard All in one treatment. The ICK seems to be getting worse. It looks like his gills are inflammed and I am worried that he is going to Die. He does eat every morning but I don't want him to be uncomfortable. They say that ICK is ichy and I want him to be Happy...PLEASE HELP MY FISH...DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS TO HELP ME PLEASE

Take the heater out! He doesn't need it. Bettas do really well at room temperature, and he probably wasn't in a heated tank before you got him. Do a complete water change, I would pull out the plant and gravel until he gets better, go to walmart and get a box of the RX aquarium salt and use a 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water(read the directions that might not be right it's been quite a while since i've needed it). While you're there, get a bottle of the Wardley's Ick Away, I've had better luck treating ick in my bettas with that than anything else, continue to do complete water changes every three days until it clears and use the Wardley's as directed.

NOOOOO Don't take the heater out!!! You need to raise it 87-88F(ICK dies in high temps) & add some aquarium salt. And add the Ick treatment to the tank and siphon the gravel. Keep this up for 8 days after he isn't showing the signs.

should the tank be aerated if you're treating with medicine?

I forgot to Mention that my Betta is kept in a 2.5 gallon tank. I have the heater in his tank b/c my Office is really cold and for a couple of days I could not get the water above 70-72. I think thats why he got the ICK to begin with...Now I just need to get rid of it.

I've never been much of a heater person, all of mine have been heater huggers but they're right about the heat for ick, I totally forgot, but a bare tank is easiest to keep for ick treatment.

I had luck with my puffers and using higher temps and a little salt it seems to have worked well.

I like this better then medicating the tank.

lol I agree. AS for treating the betta, I would go for the salt treatment and see how he does. This will usually solve the problem from what I have heard. Let us know how he does.
