Hi I just wanted to share this to see if any one has had this happen.
I had a female plakat betta I had separated (livebeare trap)from a male plakat in same tank who wouldn't make a bubble nest he showed interest and she was ready but no nest I was hoping he would build one. Any Way she built one in trap and laid eggs was even putting eggs in nest but I am sure the eggs were not viable. any one have this happen??

All 3 of the plakat females I got, Curtis, are trying to make nest in their vases that are inside the tanks with the males. (That AREN'T making nest..geeez) One female did release all her eggs in her vase, just didnt really notice what she was doing before I picked the vase up. Just saw about 50-70 eggs in the bottom.

Since the males wont make nest, I've been releasing the females quite often into the tanks with the males and then I have been watching them. If the male starts getting too rough and doesnt even have a nest made yet, then I take her back out and put her back in the vase inside his tank. Then she makes a nest. I figure she is trying to tell him, show him what he needs to be doing.

I have had a few female Bettas do this and found the females that seem to do this are the hardest to get to breed and I would try several different males with these female bubble builders. I always chalked it up to the old sayings of .. a crowing hen won't lay good, a cow that looks like a bull wont breed well or give much milk...... and last but I am sure not least... a mare that looks and acts like a stallion won't breed well or be a good mother if she does. I am sure there our other odd animal wonders these are just the few I have had personal experience with.
