Hi All I am getting a new betta tommorrow I won him off aquabid cool thing is the guy brings them from Thiland and he is in arlington He is a bit standoffish though tryied to do the shipping plus cost of fish but I said no shipping since I live like 20 min away. so I got him for $16.50 winning bid I sure hope he is as good as pic or better since aquabid pic is dark I did a little photmagic to photo to lighten it up here is before and after.

Wow. He is unusual. The words that come to mind are "paint" and "crepe paper". I know nothing about the labels applied to the color varieties of betta splendins. Is there an official name for what he is?

Hi All. Well I lost the HM papa of this spawn last nite. I have been trying to get him well for a week and a half after a female plakat beat the heack out of him and he finally died.
On a good note the fry are growing fast their closing in on a 1/2 in and majority are showing red in anal and tail fins haven't seen any black yet maybe that comes along later

Sorry to hear about that Curtis :( Sorry for your loss.

I dont know what it is about these males dying after spawning.
I've had 2 die before and I've got one now that is just barely hanging on.
I hate that.. It's much nicer when both parents live.

Here are som pics of the 1 mth old as of today. I tryied to get some pics of their color which is red in anal and tail fins if you look close you can see the red also there is in some a littel black in the outeredges of the fins really hard to see. Really hard to get good clear pics with a point and shoot camera where zoom zooms to much and auto focus over shoots or undershoots. And of course when the rascals won't pose for you either.:tease:

They are looking good Curtis :)
What do you feed them, how many times a day and how much for that many fry? I want to be able to feed mine appropriatly this time so they grow faster then the last time I had spawns. Mine were so behind from what I see at the Betta Meetings.

mematrix

Hi I realy don't know how long it should take to grow out bettas. All I do is load up the tank with BBS I get 3-6 feedings from my Hatcher depending on the hatch there is usually a small swarm all along the bottom of the tank I feed when i get up 7,8,9 oclock but by 1or 2 oclock they are gone and I feed again at around 4 My bettas look like tadpoles they are so stuffed.

I am trying to prove yea or na if what they say on aquabid is true "3 MONTHS OLD"
1 month so far they still got 1 3/4 inches to go (I am going by snout to where the tail fin starts) thats a guesstamate roflmao

I'm feeding mine 3 times a day as well, but I may not be putting as many brine shrimp as I should. Your pictures look like a lot more BBS fed then I do mine.
I use a baster and suction out 2 times into a net for each tank, 3 times a day. Sometimes I will feed them some freezedried Spirulina and sometimes the Wardley Small fry liquid as well for more nutrients in their diet.

Remember my betta I brought to the meeting? She was 3 months old then and I felt she was so much smaller then other Bettas at the meetings that were all grown out at 3 1/2 months old. And she is one of the biggest females from those first spawns. So I am kinda like you and I want to make sure I see those same kind of results in a 3 month period of time.

I think I need to do more Brine shrimp at each feeding. Where can I buy that in bulk..roflmaoroflmaoroflmao and how can I make my life easier... roflmaoroflmaoroflmao?

Where is the meeting? I would love to come. =)
do we bring our bettas? I would bring Dea, but she is so skittish, I got her from aqua-bid, she and her brother, her brother died in transport because the mail man didn't leave the package at the door, he left it in a black mail box in the texas sun. =( she lived though, and he got a proper burial.

Sorry to hear about him passing on in the mailbox :(

Its usually the 2nd Sunday of each month. It is held in Arlington at the CiCi's Pizza at Cooper and Mayfield around 2:00.

I've not heard the exact day for May's meeting yet, but should be the 10th. You will see it when it is posted.

Sure you can bring your Betta to show him off. Its very casual meeting and very interesting things to learn and hear about others Betta's experiences. Then you can decide if you want to join. Good to have new people :)

I may have to do that, the only social one I have is Ares my veiltail. Dea is too frightened, even though she is my very best of my current collection. Ares just stays in the same spot untill I come by, on a whem i put him in a jar and kept him with me for awhile to see how he would handle it, now he seems to not get enough, and goes into the jar with out me having to fish him out or anything, he is an odd ball. He's my social underwater, butterfly. lol
