Who has them?? What type of upkeep do you do?? I have one, and am thinking of trimming or cutting to spread around other than having a dense mess. How would I go about doing it properly???

Do you know the scientific name? That'd help us ID it and give proper advice (at picture might work, too).

It appears to be either a Banana Plant (http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_viewer.php?id=177) or a Lotus (http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_viewer.php?id=104). (I'm leaning towards Lotus)
Has it ever flowered?

:D sweet!!!
From what I'm reading it propagates through runners. The "mother" plan will send runners under the substrate. The runners will start to form their own root system and then can be "detached" from the mother to form their own plant.
fishman76092 has some and can probably help with the ID and how to propagate correctly.

Propagate Lotus (http://mas-wi.com/haparticles/cultivating_and_propagating_the_.htm)
This link says by runner or seed.

Without seeing the lower portion of the plant Im going to say Lotus. Could also be Spatterdock-Nuphar japonica (outside chance)
