i am aquiring a rather large(16-17") red belly pacu. if anyone is interested in him let me know i barter for more than greenbacks.lol will p/u this week and will be in quarantine for 10 days unless you have a quarantine tank to acclimate him in. i will test the water parameters he is coming out of to make sure he is acclimated to a ph change if any slowly

don't mean to be rude but I'm pretty sure no one on here has a big enough tank for a pacu. I would try monsterfishkeepers.com

That is one lucky Pacu. Most don't get the care they really need and I think it's cruel that pet stores continue to sell pacus knowing how big and how fast they grow. I had a red belly and she was very personable. Hated to rehome her but she went to a nice indoor pond. I'm sure she's happy and well taken care of. Thanks for being a responsible hobbyist.

Dang that's one lucky Pacu!!!
I'd love to get a small school of them, but even one is a pretty big commitment. I think it'd be soon neat to see them eat some fruit :hehe:
What are you gonna name him/her (can you sex pacus?)

well his name is pac-man,w/in about 10 min. of being in the tank i was petting the fish like you would a dog. my 7 yr old was even petting it. gotta love it. any large fish i sell or rehome only go to those qualified(i do give questionaires to those i don't know or trust) as stuck up as it may sound some fish only need to go to responsible owners not just anybody

Goby, congrats on your new Pacu. I thought you might like to see a picture of my friend's fish, named "The Beast." He's just a bit over a year old. They've been upgrading tanks as he grows. Isn't he a cutie pie?

I bought a pacu when I was very young and didnt know much about them. I ended up bringing him to a fish tank store and giving him to them. When I lived in Florida Pacu's were in the local lakes in my mom's neighborhood. I remember hearing about some kid that caught a huge one while fishing. Stores really shouldnt sell them.

i agree. people should also educate themselves before buying a fish.especially ones that get pretty large.

Yep they sure should, i rescued a 10" pacu and 3 9" oscars from a 55g tank once. Got over there and honestly wanted to cuss the lady out. the tank water was so bad it was black....

been there done that! its hard not to give them a piece of your mind huh? i did one i wanted to vomit when i got there. the tenant moved out left the fish for dead and had lead rusty weights and a fake xmas tree in there w/them also full of pennies and the water was black and moldy. i lost one of the three fish the others are awesome! the one i lost his conditions were so bad when he got into the right ones his skin melted off. it was so sad we spent an hour trying to save him w/no luck. but as responsible fish owners it is our job to save the fishies and thats it, even though i would love to slap some of them
