I was reading up on trophs on another site and came across some interesting ways they are using Kens spirulina super fine flake.
Long story short, some trophs keeper are mixing the flake and water in a blender making sort of a paste smearing it over a rock letting it dry, placing rock back in tank and the fish are eating it. Anyone here tried it?

I wonder what would happen if you made up some sort of flat sheet of blended flake/water, and dehydrate it to make a bigger flake or chunk?

I'd just buy a bigger flake...

but I have thought about doing this with the last little bit of dust in food containers.

Some users have mentioned they make little cubes from the paste as well and drop them in the tank. So it may work

I'd just buy a bigger flake...Kens spirulina flake is 98% pure or somewhere around there where as other spirulana flake that i have found or looked up is no where close to it. Only thing is Kens is a very fine flake, this is why i am looking for ways fish can eat it.
KKD what kind of spirulina flake are you using?

Just though about something, like spread the paste on say some wax paper or cookie sheet and freeze it? Ideas?

I actually thought about wax paper and get the food wet also....

then drying its out and making flakes what ever size i want...

but who knows...

yeah that is really intersting. i would just want to find a way (like what has been suggested) to make them into larger flakes instead of placing a rock in the tank all the time.

Ken told me that if it's pure, it's in the small flake. Spirulina is sprayed on a wall or other upright surface and as it dries, it flakes in to small pieces. He said that large flake has a binder of some sort, fish meal or soy meal for example, that holds the spirulina together to form the larger flakes.

Bloat....

How does he get flakes? They all have binders of some sort...the stuff I get from Jehmco looks just like his but larger....

Kens just disappears in the water and is mostly lost in the water column.

take a couple ounces and mix it with a little water til you have a paste...spread it out and let dry.

after 12 hours of drying you get like small chunks that almost immediately sink and stay together for a while, long enough for my bn's to find it and devour it

if you look at the jehmco pic of their flake; kens is much darker

Since I have purchased both of them...I can tell you that in person they look almost identical other then size.

Look, feel are both the same.

Jehmco has a strong odor but other then that they are about the same.
