What causes a Fluval 305 to leak on both sides where the handles are? Even with a new O-ring?

130, didn't you have a recent issue with your Fluval 304 leaking? Were you able to fix it?

did you try lubing up your o-ring with some vegetable oil?

BUD, isn't that kinda personal???

Actually, yes I did, but with Vaseline. No difference.

i googled and found this very descriptive method for checking......

Pull the top, empty all the filter media into a bucket, wipe the can part (bottom) very good with a paper towel about 1-2 inches down where the o-ring seals so there is no sand etc there.

Take the top part with the latches and motor and carefully remove the o-ring. Gently wipe all gunk from the o-ring with a paper towel not stretching it and set it aside. Inspect o-ring for slices or nicks in the rubber or a flat spot. If so you may need to replace it.

Next, wipe the o-ring channel out very good and the surrounding area with a paper towel.

Take a very very small amount of vasoline on your fingers and very lightly coat the o-ring to lube it. Probably not good for fish if you use alot, but it just needs to be slippery.

Reinstall everything and you should be good to go. If there is a notch where the electric cord slides into the can make sure the top is aligned correctly.

Note: any damage to the o-ring itself, the channel it rides in, or the the surface of the can it contacts can cause a leak so check everything good.

Check, check, and check. At this point, I'm thinking things aren't aligning properly.

I have a Newport B28 (which is basically a Jebo from Japan)- similar design. I ran a tooth brush around the edge to make certain nothing was stuck in the edge. Also check the baskets to make certain they're set perfectly.

That said, get rid of it.:hehe:

Ah, I thought 130's leaked at first. Didn't hear how y'all fixed it. I picked up a 305 shortly afterwards and turns out it leaks.

Not sure I will trust it even if I get it to quit leaking. Thinking about taking Chris' advise.

im surprised your 305 leaks tho usually the 5 series fluvals are really good on not leaking.. weird.. but yeah i keep all my canister filters in a bucket or cool.. better safe than sorry

Ok a 5g bucket is at best a band-aid. It has the potential to drain you tank all the way to the lowest point it reachs in the tank and for fluval that's the suction tube.

Say you have it on a 29g tank and dump 20 gallons of water what you have now is a electricity issue.
