So I got my 55 gallon set up this weekend, i put the two gold fish in there for the time being, and also added a platy, mollie, black finned tetra, and a pleco that I picked up at Petsmart. I also just went ahead and picked up some earth tone river pebbles and used those for the substrate, along with some plastic plants. Overall it came out looking fairly good and I am happy with it until I can invest some more money into it.
I think I am also going to inherit a 29 gallon from another friend of mine. She has some green barbs, a pleco, a red finned shark, and a platy in there and doesn't want it anymore. I'll probably put the gold fish in the 29 gallong and put everything else in the big one.....

I'll get some pictures in the next few days. It's extremely basic and looks like every other display tank at the neighborhood store.
...looks like every other display tank at the neighborhood store.
But it's at your house- and that makes all the difference. ;)

true.... very true! Truth be told, my gold fish are my favorite. When I bought them they were very small, maybe an inch if that. A year and a half later they are now at least 4 inches and have the longest tails I have ever seen. Since I put them in this big tank, they are the prettiest ones to watch....
It's not advisable to mix your goldfish with "normal" fish- they're high ammonia fish and will seriously stress all other inhabitants- if not kill them. It's do-able, but not right tot he other guys.
PS- goldfish are "virgin tank" fish- get on with it. ;) There's a huge world out there- go investigate...until we have to pull you back from the edge...the dreaded...saltwater tank- UGH!! :hehe:

I know about the ammonia thing, and them not having any stomachs... (learned that last week from this forum...THANKS!)
I am only keeping them in the big tank for about a week, or until I can get the 29 gallon set up. I had two HUGE goldfish in a 10 gallon tank and they were just starting to look cramped. I didn't want to put them in the big tank, but I didn't want to leave them in the little tank either.
Don't tease....I would love a saltwater tank, just can't afford the upkeep and equipment.
....I would love a saltwater tank...
Dude- you don't have to be cruel!! ;) Some of us would rather drive a dagger thru our heart than go salt. So much to do in the freshwater- Salt tanks are a dime a dozen and mostly unmaintained.
Not to mention ugly to those of us that are colorblind in that end of the color spectrum. :hehe:
If you need to get rid of those goldfish- I know a certain "peanut" that would love to have them over for dinner. roflmao

Nah.... Thats why I still have them. I am kinda attached to them.... I brought them to Louisiana on the floorboard of my truck... (the tank was on the floorboard, not the fish) And then I brought them back on the floorboard when we moved back to Ft. Worth in July. I thought about posting them or giving them away, but i just can't. so I am going to get a bigger tank for them, and put them near my bed. I like watching them to fall asleep.
That's cute...but I was thinkin more along these lines. :hehe:

he's definitely his own species... But I don't have dinner for him. I'll be happy to buy him a buffet at the local tropical fish food isle at the pet store though....

Dont worry Chris about being attatched to your goldfish, I have 2 5 inchers in with my African Cichlids in my 300 gallon!! They were starter fish, and they have still made it....and I kinda like them in there!! LOL
