Ok so thinking about setting up the bottom of the discus tank. I want to do 2 levels of substrate. Lower in the front ~1"+ and then maybe ~3-4" in the back, only I don't want to use 3-4" of sand or gravel. What do ya'll think would work as a base to get the elevation. Taking into account I want minimum substate to make it easier to keep clean, and also something that won't collect waste. Also something that isn't just alot of dead weight.
I am trying to think of something but can't decide what to use.

use a plastic "board" underneath like a UGF, but elevated in back to give you your desired look with minimum gravel depth. A stepped one would be best....kinda like a high school stadium seating

Nice setup, Skipp!
I'd roam around Lowes or Home Depot to see if I'd find anything that would work. If you don't find anything, it's just plain fun to roam around Lowes and Home Depot. http://www.pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/extra3/woot222.gif

What kind of material do you have in there now? And I mean like the branches and background kinda stuff. That doesn't even look like a household tank, looks like something outta the DFW Aquarium...very professional!
