as most of you know i didnt have power for a day and most my fish died.. a little less than half are alive still but its been so crazy for me here the past few days..bills and all...

this is whats happening.. I did a 10 gallon water change after i removed the dead fish and put the fish in a bin while i did it because i was also removing my large piece of driftwood.. the yellow water was bothering me.. so then after a few hours i put them back in the tank.. they are fine for a hour.. then start gasping for air trying to get air from the surface of the water.. i do have air pumps inside just so you know.. so i realized that when i removed 5 gallons of water and threw in another 5 they started to be ok again for 1 more hour.... so after doing that fopr 3 hours i quit doing it and put them in a 30 gallon bin since this morning after 2 more fish died.. not 1 fish has died all day in this bin and they dont gasp for air in it either.. wtf is going on?

do a big water change, like 40-50 %

you think that will stop them from going for air? i have already removed and put back in about 30 gals of water..

What are you using for substrate? Driftwood lowers pH and removing it may have spiked the pH level. I don't know if it would make that dramatic of an effect on the fish, but it's a thought.

Don't tell me you lost the dolphins... :(

tsunderl added 1 Minutes and 24 Seconds later...

What are you using to de-chlorinate the water?

im using Start Right conditioner/de-chlorinator
oh yeah and i use prime too..

and my ph went from 8.0 to 7.6 after removing the driftwood and 10 gal water change but it was back to normal when i put them back in.. and i use sand mixed with a bit if crushed coral as a substrate.

I am taking it that it is the 100 gallon right. And you are running an air pump, i would do the 40-50% water change and get a power head or two in there to get a lot of air bubbles and water movement at the top of your tank for aeration. I had the same problem and XTC gave me this advise and it worked, happened to me after i did a water change as well.

i dont have any powerheads the one i have doesnt work...i tried so hard last night to get the damn tank back in order and they just kept dieing.. i mean nothing in the tank has changed really just the drifwood was removed the water is not bad its very clean and i have 3 filters running for the past 3 days.. ever since the power outage.. its like they are messed up on the inside that no matter what they will die.. like how humans die eventually with internal bleeding i feel that somthing is wrong and they are slowly dieng off i am trying everything.. and i dont have any power heads yet couoldnt afford to buy any..

does anyone have any powerheads i can borrow for a few days that lives close by or any extras they can donate?

If you can't get a powerhead at this time, let the water level drop until the return from the filter is not in the water, kinda like a waterfall. This too will provide water movement.

How often and how big of regular water changes are you doing?

For ex. I do a 50% WC weekly. Rarely do I go 2 weeks if I can help it.
