Well since its now 02:41am and everyone has left the FishChat Room, I guess i'll formally introduce myself. My name is Chris and I live in Fort Worth. I am originally from South Louisiana, so you'll notice that I'll post more about the "Blue Lobsters" than anything else at this point, cause those blue lobster's cousin's, the red crawfish, are a delicacy when boiled to perfection in Southern Louisiana. And my Uncle and Father raise them in multi-acre ponds, and we very often catch the "Blue Lobsters," along with a few white ones every now and then.
In any event. I am just setting up my 55g FW tank. I am wanting to keep discus and possibly try breeding them later on. Up until this point I have had a 10g with fantail goldfish in it. I had three, the smallest didn't survive the move, and the other two are a year and a half old and are HUGE. I am going to have to get them a 20g soon. I once kept a 30g FW tank with some small fish like mollies etc, but thats been about 6 years ago.
So far, I have spent about 6 hours cruising the threads, and chatting in the chat room. Seems to be a very nice site. I look forward to learning from the seasoned pro's that are here.

Welcome to the forum. We look forward to getting to know you.
I don't know about us being seasoned pros...everyone blunders at some point in fish keeping.
If your interested in discus, Catherine's a good person to ask questions from. She keeps and breeds alot of different discus, as well as managing the True Percula.

Welcome Chris! I just started serious cichlid keeping about 3 years ago, with much research on the internet to find out how to keep them. I have learned so much by becoming a member here, as everyone is so friendly and helpful. Kick back, and enjoy reading and responding to the posts as much as we do! Good luck on your 55!
hey man!! Welcome.
I see a crawfish boil in the dfwfishbox future! Outstanding! hope you can help out.
Lots of great folks on here- sometimes more play than serious talk, but it's funny once you get to know the folks.
Pull up a chair and enjoy your stay!! Glad to have you.

Hey Chris, very nice chatting with you last night, and welcome to the DFWfishbox.
Definitely let us know if you need anything and I'm up for a crawfish g2g (get together)!!! Dang that'd be a great theme for the next "event". Crawfish & shrimp to eat, plus everyone bring some to trade or sell, and maybe some books or other "learning" material. Awesome idea!

That’s what I am not talking about new guy shows up.... and gets everyone inspired.
Crawfish boil.... maybe someone can find the missing one at my house.... or maybe Arnold can grow out his batch of babies! Something disturbing about a crawfish boil on a fish forum? I guess it is not a fish fry.
It was nice chatting with you last night Chris. Welcome to the box.

Thanks all! I would definitely love to volunteer to boil them. I learned from my Dad, and I really know how to season them just reight. I guess I'd better, otherwise they would take my "Cajun" card away from me.
Just this past Easter, I volunteered to boil crawfish for everyone at work (I was working in Louisiana at the time), and ended up boiling over 400 pounds which was more than 10 sacks. I had three 64 quart pots going at one time and boiled from 10 in the morning until after 5 in the afternoon. Ahh... Good times! Needless to say, I was walking backwards after I was done...
And if the Box decides to organize it "in season" I am sure that I can get us an extremely good price per pound since my Uncle and Father raise them. I know you can get them from a few places in Dallas, but you pay like $5 a pound. And in comparison 90 cents to $1.25 a pound is a HUGE difference.
