So yeah im not big on breeding im more of just have the fish and enjoy them..
only fish i have ever bred were convicts.. not that i tried but they breed like rabbits im sure you all know that..

what i would like to know is does my tank having many fish in it affect the breeding of my mated pairs like my moorii or T reefs? what can i do to help them be more comfortable?

thinking of getting some rock on each side of the tank other then my mid piece of large driftwood.. what ya think? what should i do to encourage them to mate?

I've got babies all over both of my 180s and don't do anything special. They figure it out on their own. :hehe:

Well, one of the things you could do in your tank, assuming the fish in your signature all live in the same tank, is thin the herd a little. You have many fish in there that will have some serious size. The other thing you want to be aware of is that once you have thinned the herd, you may see more, not less aggression take place.

Your tank is likely very beautiful right now based on the fish list you show. If you want to breed some of them, I would take a look at adding another tank. You might get some to spawn in the current tank, but then lose the eggs to a thief in the mix. Likelihood of any fry getting any size is fairly slim based on the number of fish, and the size of the tank.

If you are wanting any fry to survive in that tank you will have to have ALOT of tiny hiding spaces for them to be safe in ... and even then it's not likely many will survive.

:D T, you're an exception ... yes, you have alot of fish in each tank ... but they are also well-fed, there are a bazillion places fry can hide, and most of them (if not all) are mouthbrooders along with being not really avid "hunter-types" - that I know of

I agree with Greg. You have some fish that are mellow and others that are pretty aggressive. This is how my 180 long is. There's not many little ones in there even though there's been a lot of mommas I haven't pulled. I'll see a fairly good size juvie one day and the next it's gone. That's way Mother Nature has them have so many little ones at a time. You may get one or two providing you have hiding spots such as holey rock with lots of holes and channels for the fry to hide in.

Karen can verify that my 180 square has more mellow fish in it. Not as much chasing and they really aren't territorial. Lots of holey rock and hiding spots and lots of little ones of all sizes.

And thanks for finally recognizing my exceptialism, Karen. http://pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/neptune/Animated/Oddballs/odd001.gif
