Ok so last night I fed my fish. 2 o's, 2 JD, 1 GT, and two plecos (someone will ask). And this Morning to my surprise the two biggest fish in the tank both O's had scraches all over them.. .Now they get one or two every so often.. But not like this. I was thinking maybe they were chill'n near the heater last night . Anyone ever see this happen?

Would the JD's start picking on My O's like 2 months later ... with O's twice as big ?

Every fish have different personality..some of them are calm by nature but aggresive in your tank and vice versa.
In my grow out tank, I was puzzled for a long time over torn fin of my jurense catfish. I thought it were the Vampire Plecos...(got rid of them), then I thought it was the fei feng sucking on the tail...(moved him), then I thought it was the ray, well in the end, I lost my ray because one night I busted my platinum bichir took a chunk out of his tail and she litteraly bleed to death..
So unless you setup a camera or watch it over night, you'll never know..

i had a jd one time that nearly killed my much larger oscar. she was so beaten up that she had no use of the left fin, left gill, and that same side was almost 1/2 covered in bite wounds. I thought it was a territory thing so, i gave the jd away to texascutie who had the 380 gallon (huge tank). she reported similar behavior and removed him to his own tank. the oscar recovered in less then a week (like a complete recovery). he was a beautiful JD, but he needed his own tank. i agree that it depends on the fish's personality. sounds like yours have that personality though.

Well I was wrong .... My fish have gone mad. They are all picking on each other. My big oscar is picking on the pleco and GT.. the GT is picking on the JD's and smaller O . I'm not real sure why... they are even fighting over food. There is lot's of room in the tank so I'm not real sure why this is going on. They are all beat to hell... Any ideas .. ?

maybe its the weather. just be sure you are capable of stepping in before something dies. as in having a spare tank ready or something.

Funny ! :confuzeld:
Not real sure what to do... But I might just move all the fish out of the tank and just make it a O tank. What do you think ... 4 O's in one tank be ok ? That would mean I'd have to get rid of 2 JD's a GT and a pleco... Anyone want to trade for a albino O?

Well, that tank is about the right size for 1 O.
Maybe 2..

I'd say they are a bit cramped. Just about every cichlid known to man is territorial and will fight to establish boundries. I'd bet that's what is happening.
Try re-arranging the decor to throw their boundries off. This will buy some time. I see one of three things in your future... 1) Getting a second, maybe third tank if you want to keep them all. 2) Getting a much larger tank for the gang. Or 3), thinning out the herd.
Me? I'd get a larger tank and keep both tanks. (That's how I ended up with 16! )

If possible, you could also add a divider to "buy time." These are easily made by cutting plexi glass to size and drilling holes throughout to allow for circulation, or you could purchase a light diffuser grid from Lowes or Home Depot and cut it to size (much cheaper and easier, but less attractive. If you choose this option, I would suggest grouping the fish that are most compatable into a few larger sections.
Many times fish will get along as juvis, but once the reach maturity they get much aggressive. Or, if one of them is attempting to lay eggs or breed it could also throw things off. I would do as suggested and purchase additional tanks, and/or thin out a little bit. I just had to do this with my fish; I hated getting rid of them, but now that the tank is peaceful again it was definitely worth it.

Try feeding algae wafers just after you turn out the lights at night. He may not bet getting proper nutrition. You can also feed plecos romane lettuce, cucumbers and large plecos will also eat cichlid pellets, tubifex worms, etc.
Basically, just make sure he's getting enough to eat and it should reduce that problem. Good luck!
Just a note: all of the fish that you have in that tank have the potential to max out at 12" or more. In the long run, you will still need to downsize or add a few tanks. Glad you found the source though!:)

The problem is he's 6" long and eat's everything... Peeled Grapes, Romaine, Wafers ect I think what might have cause him to start doing this is I used to feed Brine Shrimp(he loved it) but 4 day's ago I switched to Krill ... and he don't get none.:) I moved him to a 40g with the GT's...

The pleco usually known for sucking on goldfish.....never heard of them doing it to cichlids. But heck.....take him out and see if that helps.

My plco used to do that to my o's. I would suggest a much larger tank you are very much overcrowding your monsters.

Funny story... My oscars freaks out when the house is in total darkness. That's been the problem the whole time. We have a rather large house and my son snaked the night light that lit up the hallway . . we would go to bed and turn out all the lights.. 10 mins later my big oscar would start splashing all over the place and smashing into the lid. SO I got her a light light all of her own ... and no more problems. Unless like last night I forgot to turn it on :D . Funny little fish.
if i was a betting man I would put some money down on the green terror as being the cause of all problems........once the reach a certain size they go BI- POLAR and are a real pain in the ass....

GT,Pleco, and Both JD's are gone. Two Oscars 1 is 5" and the other is 3.5", and a 3" Redhead Cic.
