I have Daffodils in a tall 30g and was wanting to put a big piece of drift wood in the tank, would they lay their eggs on wood or is this not a good idea? I would only have room for some fake plants to go with the wood.

well daf's are tangs and generally like a higher ph...

the drift wood will lower the ph...

I'd say no, but I'm sure they could be acclimated to the lower ph, but I don't think they'd do "well"

I do have cichlid salts,Tanganyika Buffer and cichlid-gro.They like the cichlid-gro better,I used the cichlid salt one time and they din't like it for some reason.

How high of a ph do they like?

Give them enough time to get used to the water and I bet they will be fine.

Anything above ph 6.5 and I bet they breed(given you have a pair).

I would not worry about buffering the water, you could always throw some baking soda in there and see what they do, but even that I would not do unless they are looking a bit poorly.

I moved this to Africans because it belongs here.

I have a piece of wood in my Cichlid tank (http://www.dfwfishbox.com/forums/production/album.php?albumid=91&pictureid=751) ... but I also have a ton of holey rock and argonite sand ...

Our Ph out of the tap up here is 7.2.....so I don't think the driftwood would alter it that much!

I guess I was worried about them laying eggs on it as much as the PH. The PH I can control.

Brichardi/Pulcher are considered rock fish and lay eggs on structures. Mine dug a cave out under some rocks and had babies there.

My water's 7.4 from the tap...PH was 7.0 with driftwood, and 7.8 now with a 2lb piece of holey rock and 20lbs of argonite sand (AND the driftwood's still in there). Argonite seems to be the difference maker...75gal
