I'm new to aquariums, but my friend has had a 110 and a 20 long for awhile now and I have decided to get into it.
There are 2 craigslists that i am interested in...one is a 39 gallon saltwater tank, and the other is a 30 gallon with a 55 gallon breeder tank which are apparently supposed to be connected each other.
I am really wanting saltwater, so the 39g sounds nice. But if i have to i would go for the 30/55, but separate them.
My questions are:
Based on what is said in the 39g post, is it ready to run, just add fish and stuff? I know theres a culture period and all that, but all the parts to get it going besides more live-rock are there right?
With the 30/55, how would that set-up work if they were connected?

I don't know that I would consider the eclipse system to be that good for a saltwater system. There is no space to ad a skimmer or refugium which would help immensely in keeping a SW setup. If your going to go freshwater, don't waste your money on buying all the Live sand & live rock he is rolling into his price on that particular eclipse system.
BTW it is being offered on DFWMAS for $230obo & not $250 like on CL. so if you did do this, I would mention that to the seller. He is also offering to drop the price if it is bought & move today. Benifits of this deal are the live sand & live rock...If they are still alive.

The other system has a tidepool filtration system with it, so your going to have to consider the space for that as well as the 2 separate tanks. Here are the dimensions on the tidepool box. Total Dimensions: 26 1/8" long x 13" wide x 16 1/2" high. As for $65 tag that's not bad even if all you did was part the system out & never actually used it. It could go either Salt or fresh. but by design it looks more like something you would see in a SW setup.
If I had $65 I would be looking into this myself.

the 30/55 setup is meant to be used as one system. From what I read thetanks are drilled in areas where it would be awkward and highlt probably of a leak if the hole was patched up. Also, it has been sitting in a garage in texas heat for over a year and has probably weakend the sillicon sealing on the glass which would mean leaky tank again... but over a pretty neat set-up and a great prject tank if you want to learn how the reseal a tank and tinker with a two tank system...
39 gallon seems like a good deal but im not a salty guy so I don't know what else you would need for it to make it complete...
Ohh yeah!
