Is there any way to tell if a tank has previously housed reptiles? My friend got a used tank earlier this year and all but one fish that has gone in it has died. I've tested the water and no ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and pH hangs around 7.2. Temp is 78, Fluval 305 and HOB filtration and air wand. Yes, she uses dechlorinator. The last fish she had were tetras and a pleco and they've all died except one tetra which I took out of the tank. Everything seems fine and then a couple months later, they all die.

So, my thought is that since I'm not finding an obvious reason for the deaths, the tank may have previously been used for reptiles. I have the tetra at my house and have put water from one of my tanks in to the container the tetra is in. He wasn't doing real good when I took him out. If he pulls through, seems my theory would be proved correct.

Anybody have experience with this scenario they can share?
