I don't know much about arowanas, but, I'd say the biggest challenge is to keep that wound from getting infected. He seems active and not eating could have been due to him being shocky after his ordeal.

Hopefully someone with experience in aros can help regarding prevention of infection.

i dont have any experience with that fish, but I usually treat open wounds with melafix. my oscar was jacked up after a fight with a JD. i would say she had half of one side covered with wounds. she couldn't breathe through one gill and couldnt the fin on the same side. she healed up in about a week. I left her in the main tank with all but the JD and treated it with rregular recommeded doses of melafix. sorry to hear about this. good luck. I think itll be alright.

You have some drop scales, no big deal, they'll grow back..

he won't eat because he is still under stress...

Bump up heat to 83-84 degrees, add an extra airstones or two and add 1 tablespoon of salt per 10 gallon, leave that for 3-4 days, then add 1 tablespoon per 5 gallon. After a week or so, he should be healed. No need for any medication.

no need to isolate him. He seems to be doing fine as is.

1 tablespoon per 5 gallon is nothing. Salt is a good disinfectant to combat parasite. They are bad if you have too much because their gills are not designed to be in a salty environment.

I can't say that I know alot about aro's, but I do have a pretty good knowledge of fish in general.

I wouldn't wait for it to get worse or bad again.

Salt is good for fish as it's a natural healing agent and is a pretty good defense for alot of ailments.
Add some salt..I'd use the lower levels at 1 tbl per 10 gallons.

This is just being proactive instead of reactive.
