I think someone was looking for some recently, Fish Gallery has some nice looking males. Did not see any I could swear were females, but some I suspected.

FYI

I saw those last Saturday (two full tanks) and they were very colorful. There were a couple I thought were females, but they looked too similar to the males to be sure, which I thought was odd (although I'm pretty new to GBRs). The store was too busy at the time for me to ask about where they were from.

OK, all I did was think about those GBRs so I had to go get some. I am fairly certain I got a pair. The female, or suspected female has a very pink belly. They are in the big tank now and are tagging around together. Very cool to watch. They are trying to find territory but so far have found all the favorite places of the Geophagus in the tank. There is one spot up front I hope they choose, but you know how fish are, if you like the spot, you think it is perfect, then it will likely remain free of occupants! LOL

Pray I do not end up with snack time like I did in the other tank.

Cool - good luck to you. I've only kept Rams a month or so and really like them. I still have the first male I got but have had trouble with the females. The first one laid eggs and died the next day. The second one has ich at the moment but it is fading since I bumped the temp to 84.

Got an email two minutes ago from Just for Pets. They finally got some German Blue Rams in today.

Everyone seems to be getting along. The new couple seems pretty happy. He had really intensified the red parts, and she seems quite colorful as well. I take all of this as good signs.

Saw the GBRs at JFP early this evening and they looked great. He said they came in two weeks ago and he waited until today to offer them for sale to make sure they were in great shape. Again the females were hard to distinguish - I saw at least two in there (with light pink bellies and blue flecks on their black spot).

Great fish to keep! I have a bonded pair in with my Discus. Very personable and they do come to the glass when I'm around. I've had mine for about 6 months now and they have laid eggs just about every month

OK, turns out the "female" was not, she was a posing male! That ended up becoming a fight, and now I have one GBR. I should have paid attention to the high dorsal fin.

On another note, the original male is doing fantastic!

You're having a heck of a time today between tranvestite rams and sump diving daredevil tetras! roflmao

Well, not all of that has happened in the same day, just finally had time to clear up a few intended posts. Thanks for the thoughts though.

Heh, welcome to my GBR nightmare!

I STILL don't think I can tell the definitive difference between male & female rams. I knew I had at least one female - 'cause there would be eggs. They never hatched, so then I was thinking I had lesbian rams...so I'de get antoher male...that would kill the two I already had...so I'de start over. Hee, I finally gave up.

... and now I have these pesky flag acaras that I can't tell the difference on!!!

'Course the silly Pearl Danios (that I never even tried to get a "pair" of) are spawning all over the tank! Watched them a bit this morning as they made breakfast for the Khulis.

are u buying you gbr as juvie's or are they 2" and full of color.
let me tell u my story I got 2 gbr's to start with not knowing how to sex them well 1 died . so I got 1 more. it died 3 days latter.
then I learned how to sex them. so I got a male and a female. i put them in the same tank as the one I had from th first buy.
he beat them up so they died. I was getting like you about to give up. so I got me 3 Bolivian ram's they paired up and spawn a week after i got them.
then I went and got 2 more gbr.
a male and a female juvie's I gave them their own tank these 2 marked there territory and stayed there this lasted for a week.so I gut (bully) my first gbr. and put him in there and the first thing he did was to flash her.so I got the other male out. the rest is still to come. i had them spawn 1 time so far.

The fish place has some large GBRs. They were not colored up. I think they had just been moved there because they were not there last week. They looked good overall and the biggest I have seen in a while.
