Thought I would start a thread for my new baby tiger oscar. Was trying to think of a name and was stumped. But tonight when I was feeding he jumped completly out of the tank and onto the floor. It made me think of Buzz Lightyear. So I guese his name is Buzz. Hope to get pictures up soon:)
OK pic is added.

Gosh! I'm glad he's okay! Yikes! Buzz must have been really stunned! Poor baby. So much for being shy, huh? Love the name.

Buzz seems to be fine. Was stunned at first. But still managed to eat a little later. Just very carefully:)

Yep he is always that dark. He does have the starting of some stripes but his fins are in the way.
He might be thinking I am the one that thru him out on the floor:)

He is very pretty! I like him dark.....gives him a mysterious feeling!! Now close that tank tight!!:brandy:
That oscar pout is sooo cute. :) Good luck with Buzz. Has his "accident" curbed his jumping for food or does he still do that? Be cool to teach him a trick with that (jumping on cue to get food, NOT totally out on the carpet!).

It only slowed down his jumping for a day. He still jumps but I am more carefull now:)

Good to hear about Pet Village I had never been there before.
By the way when I came home this evening he looked very much more striped and the orange much brighter. For a while anyway. Then he turned back to being mainly black with the stripes very hard to see.

Yeah I have had good luck with Pet Village as well. I have never seen a dirty tank in there & any dead fish I have seen appeared to be very recent. I don't know if it's just the time of day I go in there, but nearly evey time i go, they are doing a WC on their tanks.

My Oscar now seems to have a white pimple like bump on his bottom "lip". I found a closeup view of another oscar that shows the area. Then made an example image. The white spot is where the pimple thing is. Does any one know what it is and how to cure it.

I always thought these formed from their "puppy dog" tendencies. As they love to run up and down the tank when they get excited. I have also noted they appear larger and for longer with poor water quality, I figure from minor secondary infection. Only cosmetic my 14year old fem had them the majority of her life. Bummer but don't worry too much

Beautiful Oscar. Mine wags his tail fin and eats food out of my fingers.

Is that tail his real natural length?
I'm not Buzz's owner but I have two veiltail oscars (a lutino and a tiger), and so I can answer this question: Yes, that's the natural tail for a baby veiltail. Believe it or not, as they grow, they get longer and longer. Some people think they look really unnatural and don't care for it, and some people really love them. I guess you know which group I belong to. :) They don't do well with other fish in the tank because they're slower with those long fins and don't swim as fast or agilely. Other fish also tend to nip their fins. That's why my two live along. They're currently about 5" each and get along. They might not always, but that's why I have a standby tank ready to move one into if needed.

Both my oscars are lazy.... never get all that happy about anything ... just hide in the plants.... Why is that ?:hehe:
BJ, feed them ghost shrimp and they will be so happy and excited about dinner that you'll see a whole different side of them. Most oscars pout when moved to a new tank (are yours new?) or when you do anything to their tank (add a filter, change a filter, do a water change, etc.) so that's pretty normal. If they hide like that more than a day or two, I'd start to wonder about other conditions, like if there was too much light on the tank (they like dimmer lit tanks) or if your water quality might need some attention. Mine pouted at first but now greet me "wagging" at the front glass to be fed and eat voraciously. Hope your oscars start behaving like oscars soon. Best wishes!
