What are you trying to remove from the water. If it is the algae that turns the water green, I used foxtail and it turned my water crystal clear in a couple of weeks.

Foxtail & anacharis are both good for taking up ammonia. Wisteria might also be a good choice.

Depending on what you are wanting to remove. If you are having an algae bloom, try upping the amount of plants- ie: water lilies, pickeral rush, underwater grasses, and even a regular tomato plant.
Tomato plants work great for pulling out the nitrogen, just grow them hydrophonically. Hope this helps.

I have yet to test my water in my pond. I have green algae the has formed on the liner.

Algae on the liner is normal. A great plant to suck up extra nutrients is water hyacinth but it is illegal to have in TX.

Why is it illegal to have in TX

If they get into natural waterways & it doesn't get cold enough to kill them off, they will grow & multiply to the point that there won't be any water surface left.

Here's the official "prohibited" Fish, Shellfish, and Plant list from the Texas Parks and Wildlife's website (just in case you didn't know there was such a list).

I really like Tiger Lotus for a nitrate hog. Plus the lily pads and blooms are very pretty.

I like Najas Grass (Najas quadalupensis) for new setup's outside and it gives the fry a place to hide.

My goldfish and snails keep my hair algae mowed down to a nice lush carpet, if that's what your problem is.
