Please forgive my "newbie-ism"
I was so in a hurry to buy & sell on here that I didn't even notice this Introductions page. :o
My name is Dave and was introduced to this site by cervezamoney. :D
I'm a little ashamed to admit this, :o but ever since Finding Nemo came out, I've become extremely fascinated with fish... and started out with a little 10 gallon tank... eventually moving up to a 30 gallon, then a 55. I recently purchased cervezamoney's 58 gallon and am now selling my 55. I used to have nothing but community fish, but my pride and joy was an African Clown Knife that out grew my 55 and got up to about 22"-24" in length.... he was absolutely beautiful, but I wound up letting him go and traded him in at Keller Farms about a year ago... I still miss him :(
...but since, I've grown a fascination for African Cichlids... which I hope to start adding to my currently small collection.
I'd love to own a bigger aquarium, but I've been living in apartments (mostly 2nd floor) since I started, and am afraid if I buy a 75 or 100 gallon aquarium, that my neighbor below me might kill me the day it falls through his ceiling... LOL!!
Aside from fish, music is my passion... I've been playing guitar for almost 25 years now, and gig out regularly... I have my own (latin new age / nuevo flamenco) solo CD and am working on a 2nd one at the moment. I tell ya, there's nothing better (well almost ;) ) than coming home from a night of playing out, turning on some relaxing music and just watching my fish.
:)

broomhead has a 100+g in his second floor apt.... What a beast to move....
If you need help I can probably do it.... a 58 2 people should be able to do just fine...I moved a 55 w/ rock last night by myself.... not a great idea....

OMG... I was terrified just to put my 55 in my apartment... I guess I was just being really paranoid... heheh
Wow... you guys are amazing here... I so appreciate the offers to help. :)
You all really know how to make someone feel at home here.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Dave. Grab a chair and sit a spell.
I'm kinda the oddball on the board in that I don't have any fish at this time. I'm waiting on some things to settle down before I set up a tank. I've had africans in the past and they are fun to watch. I'm leaning towards getting a large tank, putting lots of plants in it, and some schooling community fish. Truth is, I'll end up doing what the bank account will allow. :spend:
Anyway, enjoy and don't be afraid to ask questions, get advise, or just jump in to a conversation. All are welcome here. :flower:

Thanks so much!!! :)
I can definitely tell that this is one big family here.
...and trust me, I know what you mean about what the bank account allows me to have as well. ;)
Thankfully one bank account doesn't know about the other... hehehe
I'm really looking forward to becoming a part of this family.

Dysfunctional? Hmmm there are threads about thongs, dogs, cameras, bicycles, beer and sucking people’s feet… heck, the “friendly” guy started a thread “Everybody....SHUT UP!!!!” …. What more could you ask for in a fish forum?
I like the pink elephant idea….
Dysfunctional ? Could be….

Yes, welcome to the site. As you can see there's a lot of interesting characters here already. We're always glad to add more to the mix.
Sounds like you have a good handle on things. One thought that came to mind... how much does a fully loaded (with clothes and water) does a washing machine weigh? I bet it's close to a 75 gallon aquarium.
biggin
09-18-2007, 07:13 PM
75g aquarium is about 800? Washing machine empty 300? 15g of water 140lbs? clothes 20lbs? My money is on the aquarium....
Why such a question? seems like the time you ask it is when you have to move washing machine....
AndrewH
09-18-2007, 07:21 PM
Doing a comparison for a second floor aquarium. If they have to accommodate the weight of a fully loaded washing machine, then I wouldn't think a 75 gallon aquarium would be too much outta carrying capacity of a 2nd story floor.
biggin
09-18-2007, 07:26 PM
I think in most cases it is not the weight of the aquarium the apartments are afraid of it is more the waterbed problem.... what happens when 75gs of water leaks, breaks filter malfunctions or something else.... Where does that water go?

I second that... I was checking out your site and downloaded the three full length mp3 songs you have and been playing them nonstop.
Just ordered your CD and can't wait to get it.
Now I just have to figure out where the heck "La Buena Vida Vineyards" is so I can come see you play live.

Thanks again everyone for the ultra cool welcome!!!!
I can tell already that there are some very interesting, but COOL characters around here...hehehe
I also appreciate the feedback, and extrememly cool comments about my music.
Sharon... you've got yourself a deal ;)
...and Andrew, dude, thanks so much for the support!!! I'll get your disc in the mail today. :) ...as for La Buena Vida Vineyards... they're located in Grapevine just a few miles from the Gaylord (take Hwy 26/NW Hwy to Dooley, hang a left and it's on the corner of Dooley & College St.) Absolutely beautiful place to come out, have some drinks and just chill out to the music.
Once again, you all are just the coolest... being a newbie not only to this forum, but to fish care, I'm really looking forward to learning allot here. :) Thanks for making me feel at home.

Use Itunes and you get the music right now.... I hate waiting....

09-19-2007, 08:13 AM
yeah, iTunes is a cool tool... it's amazing how many people prefer that over buying the disc itself.
...btw, glad you enjoyed the tunes as well... I do the same thing after a long day at work... turn on some relaxing music, watch my fish and forget about all my stresses...heheh ;)

I know it is not as benifical to you but hey better then nothing right?
Honestly a CD is as good as junk mail to me.... my ipod goes everywhere with me and works on everything.... (at work, in the car, on the home stereo....)
I need to send you myspace around to my friends who dig your style of music... It is good patio chillin music.... I wish there were more options for this type of music. There are some really cool seems like we always get stuck on Ottmar Liebert and Gustavo Santaolalla and a couple other we have found on myspace....
We will have to check you out one night in Grapevine.

Believe it or not, there's not that big of a difference in how it benefits my sales... it's actually cheaper for me in the long run. ;)
Like you, my iPod goes everywhere I go, and although I don't use CDs at home anymore, I guess I'm still a bit old school where I actually like to have the booklet or sleeve just to read credits, lyrcs, etc... I know it's pretty useless but I still have my collection ;)
I see that you're in Carrollton, my band and I used to play at the Broadway Bistro almost on a regular basis... unfortunately, they were shut down BECAUSE of the music (from other *louder* bands) and the complaints from neighboring businesses. So now, I'm just doing the solo thing there in Grapevine for now... but would love to have you come out sometime. :)
...and thanks so much for spreading my site to your friends... that is totally appreciated!!! :)

That is cool Itunes works out for you. I would hope it would, it seems like it would be a cheaper and easier way to get you music out especially if you are a new or local artist.
No problem sending it on, good music is always appreciated.
I wanted to go out Saturday night and started calling my friends everyone was at ACL.... I forgot about it.... this 2 job thing is killing me....
I have boxes of sleeves.... wish someone would have just thrown them away when I moved last and not told me about it....

I guess I'm behind the times. No iPod, no iTunes, just me and my CD players ;).
I normally get the CD and rip the tracks into mp3s and then create an mp3 CD (data not tracks) as I can normally fit about 200-250 per CD. Works awesome on those long road trips to Dallas :).
I really appreciate your style of music. Like biggin said, it's hard to find good music in the genre plus your local and a fellow fish lover. Definitely my pleasure to lean some support!!!

Man Andrew get with the times....
I got the Ipod because if you sit at a computer all day and are doing something real tedious like programming you have to have something to take your mind off what you are doing....
Also it is awesome for road trips….. 20K songs to choose from and do not need to change cds…. Life is good…. Add satellite radio to the mix (Sirius Channel 63 Outlaws…. Nothing better)

09-19-2007, 09:41 AM
Hey Andrew... don't feel bad... I'm just catching up with the times myself... heheh
I *JUST* got my first ipod just a few months ago... after getting a small taste of what it was like to have an mp3 player when I bought a pair of Bose headphones... (they included a free mp3 player), I was so hooked and wanted something bigger and better.... hehehe
Now I can't imagine NOT having it. ;)
I used to do the same thing by ripping CDs and making compilation discs for my car... now I just use my ipod everywhere I go... work, the car, on my home stereo system, even at gigs through my pa system while I'm taking breaks. ;)

Jesus! I am such an old fart! I thought I was pretty cool downloading mp3's off the net and burning them onto a CD! I love different kinds of music, depending on the mood I am in. 51 years old, and I like some rap, old soul, old rock, some new rock, C&W, classical, etc. Heck, I even like to listen to Zydeco,Celtic, and the haunting sounds of an Aboriginal didgeridoo at times! I forwarded your website to several friends and family, so maybe one or two at least will order a CD or download some songs.

Hey there Andrew,
I'm glad you got and enjoyed the disc... that's awesome that you got it as quickly as you did. :)
Sorry I didn't post sooner... since I'm moving at the end of this week, I've had my internet at home disconnected since I'm switching providers... and I tell you, even a weekend without the net sucks...
Thank God for work... LOL!!
Anyway... that's great that your spinning the disc as much as you are... that's actually my first solo disc (outside of the progressive metal I used to play)... I'm currently working on my 2nd CD... should hopefully have it finished by early 2008. :)

No pre-sales yet... BUT, I'm actually thinking of doing a promotional thing though... for $20, the 1st 100 people will get a limited edition "live" DVD (professionally packaged, numbered & signed) + the new CD when it's released... but I'm still working on the details as well as a time & location for the DVD shoot.
:D I'll definitely keep you posted.

Hey all, I just found this site which is perfect because I've been looking for people in the DFW area that share my "addiction" to fish keeping. I just recently set up a 35 gal. semi-aggressive freshwater community. (5 Tiger Barbs, Gourami, Pleco, Bala Shark) and I am gonig to soon add an eel of some sort or a Loach of some sort. I do most of my buying through Dallas North Aquarium, and I like them but if anyone has any suggestions on some other places to buy, please let me know. I have done saltwater enviornments and plan on doing one soon, but I also fear putting a big aquarium on a 2nd floor apartment haha! :)

You've definitely come to the right place!!!
:D
...you mentioned the same fear I had about big aquariums on 2nd floor apartments... right now, I have a 58 gallon, and have no problems what so ever... I'm sure having a bigger tank can definitely be done, (not sure if I'm brave enough though to test just how big of a tank I can actually have...LOL) ...most complexes don't have a problem with tanks bigger than 25 gallons as long as you have renters insurance... but I've yet to have one give me a size limit.
