First, let me say how much I LOVE my XP4! SO easy to use!
Bought the XP4 love it... found a couple of used Cascade canister that I picked up CHEAP. I needed to do a lil maintenance on one of them today, popped the top... ACK! Water EVERYWHERE!
These canisters came with no instructions... so I'm winging it. Bad move on my part :( How do I open these puppies up with out having water gush everywhere? It wasn't that big of a deal today, the one on the 30 gallon tank sits on the tile floor. But, the one on the 75 is in the stand and I see that being a NIGHTMARE.
Thanks!

Do they have a shut off valve? If not buy one at Home Depot and rig it up should not be more then $10. Open it in a 5G bucket or a tub of some sort, I have a 18g tub I keep around just for that kind of thing.

I usually turn the in feed off for about 15 seconds before i shut off the filter and remove the lines. Once you remove the lines just take the whole assembly to the sink to work on it.....works for me

Take the lines out of the tank if you do not have a shut off.... I was changing something on my XP3 did not have the shut off walked away came back about 10gs of water on the floor... It can create a siphon....which makes a mess….

So concensus is that the XP3's are good filters yes? I'm trying to decide on that or a w/d for my 75

XP3s are great. I really like them, I am not a big fan of the 2 Fluvals I am a little spoilt from the XP3s I have had. Priming the XP3 is really easy and they have a really good flow.
Petsmat.com has the XP3 online for about $100. I think I have a line on one for $30 I am going to see about tomorrow.

Only if I can get a hat like yours....
I have been seeing the XP3 and 4s roll through DNA a couple times a month. Typically $20-30 each. I make them set them up so I can see they work and what the flow looks like.

Seems like an alright canister (the flow rate claims seem to be conflicting which seems a little "shady"), but $43 + $38 shipping [$81 total] you might as well get an XP3 for an extra $23, just my $0.02 worth ;)
Definitely let us know what you think of it if you buy one.

i have fluval 403 , runs great but makes a little sound . Does anyone know , where to get the parts for these old filters ?
I've got a Newport N28 (which is the import version of the Jebo) and it works great. It's quiet, has a nice flow and is pretty easy to maintain. I'd certainly own another. They sell the Jebo's at USA in the Garden ridge shopping center-.

I am not a fan of the Fluvals personally.
XP3s are the way to go. I have heard good about the Cascades as well.

I totally agree with Blake, after using my XP3s I can't think of anything better outside of a wet/dry.
I'd gladly trade my Magnum for another XP3. Anyone?...

But we all have our opinions.

I have the FX5 and the 405. I have no complaints on either.
love fluvals, I like my impeller in the top of the canister instead of the bottom.
