I caught these guys in a local park. The ones in the background are mosquito fish. I ended up catching a bunch of males & one big female. She appears to be gravid.
I have no clue what the little guys in the center of the pic are. They are about 1/2" right now. Coloration is limited other than being barred & have on black spot at the back of the dorsal. If anyone knows please chime in.

found this:
Blue gill or Bream (Lepomis Macrochirus) to over 10 inches. Vertical bars on body and a dark spot on the rear edge of the soft dorsal fin. Game fish with collection and bag limits.

Nice. We were out at a couple Plano creeks over the weekend and thinking about netting some fish like these to put in a spare 10 gallon. I wouldn't put them in my established tanks since they could get current tenants sick. I'm having second thoughts now though - I'd eventually need to release those blue gill or dig a pond.

Yeah I'll be adding a pond to the back yard when we move to the new house. They were schooling with the mosquito fish. I have them in a separate tank. They'll be there a long time.

I just used the extra long net that I never use for the aquarium to catch them.

Nah there was a school of 300-400 of them. It wasn't to hard to catch them with a net.

At this point I'm leaning toward them being bluegill fry, but it's hard to tell without muh coloration. We used to catch baby bluegill & crappie in our ponds when we we're kids & they always had alot more color than this but we always caught ones that were a little larger, so maybe they'll color up soon & I'll know for sure.
