Ok so the girls were at preschool....and I decided to do a water change on my 100 gal planted tank. My husband built me a PVC thing that hangs over the tank with a long tube to siphon to the sink in the downstairs bathroom. (are you still with me??)
I did that around 3......I drained the water...hooked up the water hose thing to the sink in the bathroom....and started to fill up the tank. My husband ALWAYS says to watch the water cause I AM THE QUEEN :queen:OVER OVERFLOW!!
Well I was talking on the phone....and I hear it pouring down the stairs!! I DID IT AGAIN!!! I unhook the sink and lay it in the sink to drain the excess out of the tank.....I go upstairs....use 10 towels to clean up the mess...and used the cut off on the PVC to stop the water from draining in the tank downstairs! It's now 4 and I went to pick up the girls!!
I got home at 5.....and was going to try and clean the 300 gal....so I went in to the bathroom to get the siphon out of the sink.....
and there were 6 Zebra Danios in the sink.....I was SHOCKED and upset...so I picked them up and was about to flush them into Fishy heaven.....and they started to flicker!!
So I ran upstairs and started to do that fishy water thing (MY HUSBAND WOULD BE PROUD IF IT WAS HIM I WAS DOING IT TO)......and one by one....they SWIM OFF!!!
I can't believe it!! ALL 6 Made it almost 2 hours later!! WOW!!! There's my story!! Hope you enjoyed it!! hehe:brandy:

Hey, that's pretty good! The fish gods were with you...
They're good little fish...
I tried flushing (don't ask) two one time and they swam their little tails off through two flushes and were still swimming so I figured they had a reason to be here. I put them back in the tank and they lived another year or so. Both were like "cool...it was a great vacation but I'm glad to be home!"
No reaction to the toilet water or nothing.
I don't recommend flushing your fish...I was young and stupid.

LOL I know...sadly if they are gone...I put them in the garden to make the flowers grow!
I can't believe it!! I checked on them just now...and they are still kicking!!

Now that's a good rescue story!
You know what? I felt the horror of seeing them in the sink. It made my heart sink when I read it!

I am still curious how I can get Christine to change the water in the tanks.... hmmmmm
Not a chance....
yea- be careful with that Blake- one time I had megan change the water (unsupervised) and she forgot the dechlorinator and the whole tank was dead the next day. She still tells me she didn't forget. :rolleyes1:

Christine wants no part of it.... typically it just turns into a good excuse to drink beer....
I couldn't agree more.
When I don't do maintance/cleaning til sunday morning...I still gotta have my beer. Megan, somehow, knows the difference in the sound of a Diet Coke can and a Natural Light can and she looks at the clock- and back at me. :wha:
good stuff!!
Tomorrow sucks- I have to clean filters- I hate that part.

I always try to pick a time Christine is not home (most of the time)....
Been thinking of a better setup to do it all.... fresh is not too bad but need a better way to mix the brackish....
I love when I get home from Home Depot and my neighbor (who works nights) is out working in his garage at 8am drinking MGD....
[slips into consultant mode] how many gallons of water do you change in your brackish water changes?
What kind of hygrometer (sp-lazy) do you have/use? I bought one at the beer store (more accurate than the plastic thinggie). I thought about buying the real deal on ebay for $45ish...but then I got out of brackish.

typically about 15-20 gallons a week - week and a half so ~80 a month
I have the plastic one.... I know not terriablly accurate but I am mostly concerned with going way too high (like this week) and I think it works for that... but been thinking about getting a better one...
Why?

I have been interested in the home brew thing but once the over indulgence disease kicked in (diabetes) it kills heavy beer.... or it kills me
