This is a pic of my male V. synspilum. That is a 12 inch flower pot that he is sitting in. I have a pair, but I had to move the female out of the tank for a few days...he beat the crap out of her.

Lellison...They are in a 125 right now. I think they are going to out grow it though. All the info I can find says the male should top out around 12 to 13 inches. He is around 10 right now. I still have the pair seperated right now. I will probably reintroduce the female to the 125 next weekend. The female is in a 55 long right now.

Brandy...thanks, that is one of the reasons I originaly got them. The colors and teh fact that they get BIG.

wow. that is big. they do have amazing color! I hope he is nice to her when you reintroduce them. have they ever spawned for you?

Yes, I have had two spawns from them. Most were sushi for the other fish in the tank. I did manage to get 12 from the last spawn. They have already been parted out and the last few went to the LFS for credit. Are you interested in some if they spawn again? They usually have about 300 fry.

those are some real nice looking synspilum mongo!! i sold my pair last fall and they perished in an ice storm in tulsa. the guy i sold them to gave me some fry though that i have growing out before they hit the 220.

ooh, I only wish I could be interested. Can't afford a tank big enough at the moment. content with 55 and 30's for now :hehe:

I love these guys. I have ten that I got from one of Rey Rey's friend, mine are still fairly small and are just begining to color up.

Unfourtnately, I have had to "down size" recently. And my pair of syns were a victim of the "down sizing". But when things get better, I will have some more. Thanks again for all of the compliments. They are one of my favorite species.

dhawk52, good luck with yours. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine.

that sucks. those were great looking fish. Im sure the male used the rule of thumb when beating the female. It works. Thats why it's a rule.:hehe:

They wound up going to Fish N' Chirps. I couldnt keep them any longer. I had them shoe horned into a 75 gallon tank. I was going to wind up losing the female if I didnt get them into a larger tank. So I traded them off to FN'C, got pretty good store credit...and they sold them the next weekend.

nice fish, is the female going to be able to go back with the male or is he still going to beat her up?
