Picked some up at the Fish Gallery. I'm not going to put it in my main tank yet since I noticed their display had snails in it. But the store sure does look good. I went in there knowing they had baby tears, but was really happy when I saw the dwarf species. I'm thinking about breaking out the 2.5G just to plant this stuff in it.
They also had some really sweet looking Anableps in one of their plant displays, which would make a sweet fish for an open top tank or else in a vivarium. It looks like a mud skipper only not muddy :hehe: I had never seen these before. After reading up on them, they are pretty interesting, I might have to get some, but they might wig out my wife with their little bug eyes roflmao

Sweet!!!
I was just reading about the dwarf BTs last night. Before that I didn't even know there was a dwarf version.
2.5gal sounds like a good plan (should be easy to get it going/multiplying).

Yes, those were cool....I wish I had a good place to put them.

Yeah I was thinking I wouldn't even need a filter, I have that Jalli light for it &another. I could grow some shrimp in there with it as well. with just a simple fountain pump for circulation.
Yeah if I can get it to grow, maybe I can spread it out to others that want it. Maybe we can do that with all of our plants. :confuzeld: I know there are a few more species I would like to find as well. Particularly some star grass Heteranthera zosterifolia, used to have some back when the Angels were merely bebes in a 20G, my first planted tank running DIY CO2

Stargrass is pretty nice stuff. Have you seen it locally?

I've only seen it one place in the last four years. That was POR in Waxahachie & my friend that ran the fish department ordered it & gave me some. It grew like crazy & was beautiful. It grew so fast, that I got rid of it. Wish I hadn't now. I'm sure someone in the DFWAPC might have it in one of their tanks, but other than that, your going to have to ask for a special order for it.
I haven't seen any mosses available other than Java moss either. I guess that's why I was so happy finding the dwarf baby tears.

my ameca spendens are using my dwarf baby tears as a good source of extra nutrition... i don't think it's going to be around for much longer

Yeah I'm gonna have to get more. I left it in the bag so the snails wouldn't get in my tank till I had time to set up my 2.5G it was already growing under my light inside the bag. But the next day I came home from work excited about setting up the 2.5 & what did I find? The bag had floated directly under the light & it cooked the stuff. So yeah...I killed it before I ever even got to plant it.
That's got to be a new record or something!

Ouch!!!
Let me know if you get some more as I'd like to try it in the 33 (I need some small plants as permanent residence for the tank).

some of the sites i see these on vary in the light requirements. so, are they medium light or high light?

I have two patches in my 90 gallon, they seem to grow well in the 108 watt T5 lights I have at the moment. I bought my 2 pots at DNA for 2.99 each I think.
When they start overgrowing the area I have them in Ill prune some for the group.
They are a nice carpeting plant :)

what are your water parameters? KH? pH? and what is the K on your bulbs? what do you feed them? subsrate?

hmm water parameters, whats that :hehe:.
For really, this tank is 4 weeks up and going, I have a 10k and a 6700k t5 bulb at the moment. Tank temp is 82F. I use soilmaster pro for the substrate. only 2 fish atm, 2 juli corys. I did some fertilizer tabs when i first planted but nothing for a while (maybe time).
Lights are on for 14 hours atm.

I killed it. I'll probably wait till I upgrade to a bigger tank before I get anymore. I've got 2 huge swords & a bunch of apongeton that have swallowed all the free space in the tank.
I'm getting pretty fed up with the 55G, the shape just sucks for a planted tank & only being 13" wide does nothing for aquascaping.
If/When i upgrade, the 55 will become an african tank full of holey rock
