I picked this rock/fossil up at Cedar Hill- Joe Pool lake.
What is it?

It looks like part of an ammonite.

I would say a broken piece of ammonite, but what do I know. :confuzeld:

My cousin used to do road work up around Glen Rose and he used to bring me whole fossils like the one you have.Said they have found them to about a foot across.It is also probably limestone.

I agree it could be limestone, i just brought back 50 pounds of pink, rust, and red limestone from my family cabin in Utah..Limestone can come in many different textures and colors.

I agree that it looks like an ammonite fossil. I have one somewhere around in one of my rock bins. I found mine in Clear Creek bewteen Aubrey and Sanger. Its not whole, but it still pretty cool. I took it out of the tank as it was leaching into the water, but that was when I was using RO water and trying to raise discus. Pretty cool find XTC, now ya just gotta get a few more and you will have a "prehistoric" display.
