What would be the best type of substrate to use for Jack Dempseys any input will greatly be appreciated.

Pretty much anything. I would stay with something more inert and not crushed coral or something that will raise the PH.

I'm not too up on JDs, but what type do you typically like to see?

I'm thinking any of the color quartz or sands would be nice.

Well I was either looking at color quartz or just plain gravel. You wouldn't recommend mixing crushed coral with the gravel Blake?

I think you will be fine if you do but I do not think it is necessary.

I do not think you will kill the fish if you do but he/it will probably enjoy the lower ph if you do not.
