I have blue gills in with my goldfish. They are ones my son caught at Joe Pool Lake. These were the smallest we had and right now they are around 2.5 inches long and about the same high...thin creatures they are..

In the big tank,,the one I killed most of my SON's fish in.... we had around 5 more. These were considerablly older and larger.... these were around 6 inches long and 5 inches high....

the coloration in them is interesting... the yellow patch under the neck area really became golden and the green hue was just amazing...if you caught them right in the tank...you would not seem them because of the coloration....

If no one is interested in getting them,,,I will take him..need to find the listing..

Not exactly sure what geneology they follow... '' sunfish '' is something I have heard.... I think they are related to the same family as BASS.. but pretty sure I am wrong....

nice addition to a cold water tank.... they seem to thrive in the warmer waters and gather more coloration...but they are cold water fish

With the spring spawn upon us, it won't be long & you can nab tons of these little fry that are around an inch or less all along the shores of any lake or pond.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the local texas perch (at least some of them) are related to the or are in the cichlid group. Others, like the black perch, are a.k.a. black bass.

I'll see if I can find those articles again.

EDIT: It was the warmouth & green perch = a.k.a. rock bass

I kept them when I was younger. I just caught them in the spring and tanks around my house. Joey, if you want some, just catch them, I would not pay for them.

...and yes they are tatsy

the only native cichlid is the texas cichlid. cichlids and sunfish/panfish share an ecological niche but are not really that close genetically.

Yeah, that's what I gathered from reading that link... they look like some of the cichlids, but are classified separately. Might be the difference between the warm and cold water, but not really sure.

yep, i used to fish for yellow perch in michigan....a bluegill or sunfish are totally different family. a perch has a bass/walleye type shape. freaked me out when i came down here and people were saying they caught a mess of perch and they would show them to me and i was like those sir are not perch....not even close.
